  1. The lady who I advised had a replica 1562 "coin" messaged me tonight calling me a nasty person and she might report me to ebay for abuse. I had merely pointed her to the direction of 2 more replicas after my initial message. She also said she had 7 children and was selling it for a friend. Brain of Britain? I don't think so.
  2. There she blows. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rare-hammered-elizabeth-1562-silver-coin-/141089412869?pt=UK_Coins_BritishHammered_RL&hash=item20d9959705
  3. I've been watching this for entertainment purposes. I've just emailed the seller and told him it is a retail £3 coin. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290953441637?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 There is also a pewter 1562 6d for sale although I've referred her to 3 identical replica coins.
  4. AT is firmly embedded in the US collecting scene. As is TPG,modern strikes and the like. Long may it always stay over there. Maybe the love of toning reflects their lust for neon lights and everything generally gaudy.
  5. That crown surely sums up this thread. The historical auction catalogues are full of this type of crap....aren't they?
  6. Try CDESTEVES'S sources for bulk buys. He is the treasure bag ebay seller. I gave the majority of my VH's to local schools and got rid of huge bags at a car boot (we did once). The ones I've got left I will check. This reminds me of the great surveys and variety write ups that coin monthly produced.
  7. I paid 20% on a James 1 1/- earlier this year. I believe revenue also have a time limit to claim back errors. Most major dealers/auction houses will correctly code the customs declaration. I wrote mine off to experience.(you lose £15 per £100) I've had several packages coins from the US with no customs/declaration.
  8. Thanks Neil I can't believe I hadn't noticed that before. I note that it came from the US in 1980...no earlier provenance?
  9. This is a 1850 farthing from one of our forum members site. http://www.aboutfarthings.co.uk/Farthing%20-%201850.html
  10. It must be a difficult task to put reasonable reserves on every coin when probably one is a jack of all trades. The best to expect would be to ID the S nr and use basic Spink pricing (ignoring rarity as Spink do)
  11. Hi Geoff What gems have you managed to pick up this year? I agree on your early copper comments.Even verdigris free eye appealing coins are hard to find. The internet bidding options are certainly driving the market up. The bargains are still out there,it is a case of being in the right place at the right time. I happily still play the waiting game for my wants. May I ask you how and where your 1718 1/4d came from? What did the vendor describe it as? Beautiful coin.
  12. If the weight is right GF is a meaningless grade. The coin is a beauty. I'm sure you paid over estimate but value/desirability ...you tell me. I'm sure yours would win a beauty contest over most. PS I also loved your recent Charlie.(A bargain and fantastic example)
  13. As he dips back into varieties.
  14. Declan If you sell it make sure it is properly described.(less lacquer)
  15. They are quite common and as yet not noticed by many dealers.(Even auction houses) Not a fantastic variety by any stretch but unmistakeable. I have been looking for a GEF+ for a while but I'm sure collectors without a clue are also after any 1863 being it a key date. A nice little variety to search for at a fair buried beneath those shiney pennies.
  16. You couldn't make this up. BTW NVF 1875H about £2 NVF 1875sd about £35
  17. Hi Bob The split R was normal around this period. 1875 (ld) normal R 1875 (sd) split R. I've just checked Colins site (aboutfarthings)and he has the split R as normal. In Colin Cookes 1/4d catalogue it notes all farthings 1875-78 are split R apart from LD 1875 and the Heaton mints.
  18. Further to Clives post. How about this for the lady in your life. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/George-V-Farthing-enamaled-Silver-Pendant-1910-/221297265634?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3386584be2
  19. Neil I can't recall seeing any AT/rainbow(call it what you like) coins in your catalogues/online site/auctions ETC. I would love to see a before and after "special recipe". We are all well aware of some of the low ball cleaners in the UK collecting fraternity (they do catch a few newbies) Although I'm not aware of any Rainbow coin sellers. I would love Coin News to pick up on this.
  20. I've just read the PCGS thread. The back slapping is hilarious. 15 years ago I assume AT was taking its first tentative steps. Anyone want a lemming posing pouch? I think I have sourced plenty of fur. Extra large and small boys sizes are available to suit all the forum's members
  21. I've just told it as I see it. Debate can't be a bad thing. I'm just glad in the UK this stuff is just not acceptable to 99% of collectors. Please tell me if you have ever seen a reputable UK dealer auction or list this sort of thing.
  22. Peter

    Good Evening

That is why the forum has been sleepy. Ask away...there are no stupid questions. If you sort them into denomination then date order you can feed us scraps. BTW nice goal from Gerrard.
