  1. About as rare as hens feet! as opposed to hens teeth
  2. Just purchased this penny. Fulfills the set??
  3. Looks like a half groat of Archbishop Bourchier (Canterbury)S2025 though the knot below the bust is not clear. The mint mark is a "Y". Oh! sorry! Edward IV of course. I'm at odds with the current valuations, so I wont offer an opinion.
  4. Yes Tom! I know there are some badly minted coins of that mint, but I thought this particularly poor.
  5. I Know that the Scots could have been bombarding the castle at the time, but this portrait could give children nightmares! S1415 1.1gms 17.7mm Pellet at neck class 5a. Large serifs to 'V' & 'W' I.m seriously considering saving examples of mint incompetance!!
  6. [ Happy Birthday Geordie, Many Happy Returns of the Day! Sorry to be late with the wishes!....I think you and I are the senior members on the Forum! LOL!] You could be right! Just keep up the exercises:- Breath in Breath out Repeat.
  7. It's easy! Get them to switch on a fan pointing over your shoulder
  8. I'm still here and checking on all of you periodically! Thanks for asking, Huss. I'm still recovering from the Llangollen Canal trip and 2 weeks enforced abstention from forum browsing! It's about time the IT crowd provided internet on canal boats! Have had a look at your new website and am impressed! Well done! Although I don't save milled (with a few exceptions)I like to follow your latest additions. Remember, I've got my eyes on you all!!!
  9. Happy Birthday, Chris! Nearly missed it, cruising the Llangollen canal - in the rain!!!
  10. It depends a lot on what you collect. EF milled will be vastly different to EF hammered! Spinks include a general guide in their "Coins of England" but that is specific to the country, though is a good general standard.
  11. Now the site is warning "the owner has exceeded his bandwidth!!! Boy! aren't you having problems!
  12. Clive! I'm getting warnings of Malware when I try to access either of your posts on Coinpeople. Is it safe and just a glitch or should I wait a while?
  13. I spoke to Clive yesterday, he has had a server issue, and the issue should be resolved soon Thanks Colin! I always get twitchy when my main type of reading is in jeopardy!!
  14. Anyone know why the web link to Clive's site is not working? http://www.historiccoinage.com/forum/
  15. Yes! The quality of English silver in Edward Ist reign was the best in Europe so the Europeans were fast at imitating English coins. Here's a couple of examples. http://www.omnicoin.com/coins/963292.jpg Robert of Bethune (Flanders) http://www.omnicoin.com/coins/899184.jpg William count of Namur (Belgium) Quite good forgeries!
  16. If you want information on the extensive Edward I pennies, I'd get yourself a copy of "The Galata Guide to the Pennies of Edward I & II." by Withers
  17. Hmm! It just goes to show....horses for courses. To me a pristine coin of the hammered variety just shows it has never been used. If that's your bag -good luck (and plenty of money) but beware of Chinese and Ashmore fakes. For me a certain amount of wear is essential to satisfy my feel for history. Seeking perfect hammered coins could be satified by a collection of Ashmores!! and they have far more handling too!
  18. Back on topic----Why not ring the Royal Mint?? They MIGHT know. But some of the rubbish they produce these days makes me doubt it!!
  19. Just be thankful you're not getting one from the Queen! Best wishes
  20. The wall didn't work - they pop up all over the place - but I'm working on it
  21. ok! I make it Henry VIII 'sovereign penny', (king on a throne - with 2 pillars) Mint mark is a sun Spinks 2353 (SedeVacante). Of course someone else could always disagree!!
  22. Just checked the Spink catalogues from 2008-12 and there are only two £2 designs listed for 2007: 300 years since the Act of Union between England and Scotland; and 200 years since the Abolition of the Slave Trade. It's strange as I have concentric circle issue for every year including 2012
  23. Perhaps I'm just missing it but I've scanned the 2011 and 2012 Spinks catalogue and cannot find the 2007 issue £2 coin of the concentric circles. As I have one, I presume it's a printing error. Can members please confirm I'm not losing my marbles! They seem to say there are no more issued after 2006!
