  1. Oh! Dear! As an avid anti-euroist, I'm very afraid this will change me to "Let's join the Euro ----PLEASE" I'm now regretting collecting all the decimal series British coins. Ah! Well! Back to my beloved hammered.
  2. It's not the loss of the queens head I'd be bothered with - it's what this mob would replace it with!
  3. You mean something like this?
  4. As a Daily Mail reader (I find all other tabloids frivolous and the broadsheets pompous - and I find the puzzles entertaining), and a fervent believer in protecting what little we have left of 'Britishness', I would just like to say - it would be nice if our lords & masters thought to do what the populace want - just for a change!
  5. I'm afraid I'm a bit staid in bidding. I see a coin, decide how much I can afford (not necessarily how much it's worth) and leave it at that. If I don't get an e-mail saying I've won, then I just try to forget it (not always easy!)
  6. Have you noticed the increasing use of electronic automatic bidding on E-bay? I was watching a Richard I penny today, that was at £41 for the last few days and up to only <1minute to go, when the price suddenly reached £68! I reckon it is probably the future of purchasing in auctions.
  7. Diana The London Mint Office is at it again. But don't you think they could have found a better image of Diana for their latest offering? How old does she look? No prizes but I think 49!
  8. Because coins of the series I save are scarce (or expensive) I must admit to saving the crown size series (from Victoria). This means I have to slavishly buy all new issues Never mind. I will probably put the lot on fleabay as a collection someday!
  9. For the starters in our midst. If you are thinking of one of these, make sure you read the very miniscule writing just above the application form. These are NOT legal tender in the UK. They are for Tristan de Cuhna.
  10. Hi! Joe. You could also go back in history a bit and try Hammered! Just kidding! I never could understand the 'milled' crew! But 'horses for courses'
  11. I wondered about the small number of registered posts! A recent change?
  12. If those are genuine, they are the best examples I have seen. Are they registered with the authorities? YOC would be the best man to answer your query, as he saves those.
  13. Yeh! Happy New Year. Perhaps everyone was celebrating early - and have'nt yet surfaced
  14. But what you didn't realise is that the laptop came with the coin. Now if that were true I'd really be miffed!
  15. Damn! I missed it!
  16. Nice one! Fantastic condition for detector found. Welcome to the site - and a very happy holiday!!
  17. I ran a 'Rallying News' back in the 50/60's when I was active in the sport. The first flush was great - plenty of people to offer news, information & ideas. Within a year all that had dried up and I was left to fill in with cartoons & jokes. So it is never as easy as people think - right Chris?
  18. I tried Coin Monthly for a year, but cancelled my subscription because, like a lot of forums, seemed to be stuck post 1600's with a few Greek & Roman to try to show a wide span of cover. Not useful to a hammered collector I used the Coin Clinic but was disappointed with the results.
  19. I can reccommend Chris, too! But he is in Germany! Try the address given above, you don't have to accept any offer immediately, you can come back to the forum and discuss it with us! (No hammered coins in there by any chance?) You couls also find dealers via the coin fair in Birmingham as discussed on the thread "Coin Clubs & Fairs'.
  20. I think he missed an'H' from his handle!(quicksaleitemshmuck)
  21. Great picture! Pity it's not what you get!
  22. Yes! I do know of Wildwinds but I was just wondering how far the Index had progressed. I was trying to list all Celtic types known.
  23. I got burned when I sold my first collection to buy my first computer ( a Sinclair, it was that long ago!) I had ammassed a great collection of early Victorian & Edward VII silver from Malta, mostly EF, where it was in circulation at the time. I also had a number of Saxon and Norman pennies that I'd give my eye teeth for now. The money only just covered the cost of the computer, which, although well used in learning programming, never lived up to the quality of the collection lost.
  24. Anyone tried to access the Celtic Coin Index lately? I've been trying for a couple of days, not for anything specific, just interest, and am getting "Site not available". Celtic Coin Index Link
  25. I agree on the value of artifacts. Should surely be worth more than Beckam or Posh?
