  1. Once again the statement has been made by the Royal Mint that The 'Legal tender' commemorative crowns they produce are not acceptable by banks or for use as currency. This makes a mockery of the whole British monetary system. Collectors, on the whole, knew this but youngsters and gift giving elderly people did not. Fraud perhaps?
  2. The lettering in cruciform would suggest Aethelberht(858-66) but I agree it does look like a modern copy. It would take an expert to identify it. Local museum perhaps? We have to be wary as there are many sources of copies, apart from China. The French petrol stations were issuing ancient coin replicas way back and now a new Magazine series called "Rulers of Britain coin collection" will be giving repros away with each issue. Many don't include the WRL stamp to show it's fake!
  3. Does it have a reverse design? If not it's a button!!!
  4. Seconded (and thirded, fourthed.....)
  5. Rob. Would you let me post a copy of your analysis of the EU question on another forum. It's the most sensible assessment I've read so far.

(It will be the RAF forum where a similar topic is raging!)

Course you can. Unlike some assessments of the EU and its policy, it wasn't intended as a piece of fiction.

      Cheers

Thanks. The RAF topic is raging mainly because of ex-pats who see themselves as threatened in some way, though I can't see the likes of Spain kicking them out any time soon - they provide too much revenue!!

  6. We were conned into Europe and now we're being frightened into staying in. Should tell us something? Out, Out, Out.
  7. I desperately want to stop buying modern coins or even collecting them from change - but you know how it is, seeing them brings on the itch and 10-12 coins down the track you can't stop. What a lot of garbage when you oversee the result!!! By the way Chris, I don't dispute other itch-for Kylie, it's just another form of collecting!
  8. Sorry! Didn't notice the garbage after 'Catalogue'.
  9. Finally! Suckseggs. Thanks!
  10. Thanks, Nordle11, Lets see if it worked. Unfortunately Not!! The damned Hotmail address is still present???
  11. Yes, Chris . It's referring to the new Spinks 'Decimal' Catalogue Ian Rank-Broadley gue. It only shows the Jody Clark portrait but, as I stated, there is one from Ian Rank-Broadley!
  12. I've been trying to amend my profile to remove the e-mail address shown, without success. Is there any reason it is not shown in my profile but appears on all my signatures?
  13. Another anomaly. In Spinks, S4632, the standard 'part shield' is only shown as having the Jody Clark portrait but my example has the Ian Rank-Broadley head. Do you think they published unfinished?
  14. I see it's geared towards Milled. Or am I reading it wrong?
  15. I've posted this before but In can highly recommend it. http://www.predecimal.com/lindner-digital-microscope-lindner-7155-p-18576.html I think Chris was going to look in to the supplier but that was months ago! I modified the support to provide an adjustable height for various sized coins. Built in picture taking and easy to use.I tried to include a picture but ran into the size restriction. I can send one if you wish. https://www.photobox.co.uk/my/photo?album_id=221590585&photo_id=500005912925
  16. Another reason for avoiding Windows 10 !!!
  17. Another reason for avoiding Window 10 !!!
  18. I've more or less dropped out of collecting because I'm not enough of an expert to spot these. Dealers don't usually have examples that are within my price range, which is why I stuck to the lower end of the condition scale. But it was fun while it lasted, throwing up the odd enigma on the way.
  19. I paid something similar in 2012. Wonderful workmanship. Full now, but having to use plastic trays now. Quite a let down.
  20. No-one seems to use this. http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/pages/Long-Cross-Pennies/Long%20Cross%20Pennies%20P4.htm#Class 3 sub-classes I can highly recommend it. You can even follow the addendums on each category to extend the classification.
  21. I'd say a certain IIIb it fulfills all the attributes Given in http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/pages/Long-Cross-Pennies/Long%20Cross%20Pennies%20P4.htm#Class 3 sub-classes Take a gander!
  22. Thanks for that confirmation of my scepticism !
  23. Latest on Ebay. Thought? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RICHARD-III-HAMMERED-SILVER-COIN-/222014390360?hash=item33b116c058:g:h~YAAOSwvUlWsnal
  24. OK! As no-one else has come forward - yet, I'll venture the first one as Henry III class 6x of Canterbury. My reference being Wren "The Short-cross Coinage 1180-1247. But I stand to be corrected! The second - I have no idea!!!
