I need some advice on how to go about posting some low value coins to a mate in Australia. I tryed today to send them at the post office and the lady said they would be taken as currency and destroyed by Australian customs. That was as much advice as i was given, i left package in hand shaking my head. I didn't realise it was so complicated. People must frequently sell items/coins on eBay to Australian citizens. How do i go about ensuring my coins reach my friend. Thanks in advance. Stu.

?. I know. My english isn't top but thats awlful. The moral of the story is avoid, far too much information. When an item comes on eBay with a tale that long its generally BS. Reported them both.

Definitely a token. No coin would have such a terrible image of George IV on it. His hair looks like a bowl of spaghetti ? What's on the other side of it ?

The only thing stunning is that it raised £5.50. Its scrap.

Welcome to the forum. I second that advice. Buy the best you can afford or you'll end up with coins your embarrassed to show in the future and which you'll regret purchasing. I started off with short cross coins as they were cheap and abundant back in the day. Just enjoy what ever you choose to start with and best of luck finding good examples . Thats the easy bit frank. Its resizing your image you may struggle with.

Ha ha. You've made a new best friend! I once messaged a woman selling an unidentified hammered kindly telling her what it was. She messaged me back a few days later about identifying a few other coins for her. I ended up with about 30 separate messages each containing a coin image. She wanted full ID including mintmarks, spink number and grade plus rough value. I don't bother messaging anybody no more with help requests ?.

I've heard of that before. Interesting. I've got a few half pennys of Geo III & IV that are as black as coal but with a sheen almost as if somebody has painted them. Not sure if its a natural occurrence or man made alteration in antiquity.

I've only used it on low value bronzes (stychas) that where breaking out. Obviously after I've cleaned them up. If i had anything of any real value I'd probably not do it. Renaissance wax is used by museums for preserving almost everything once its under gone preservation. I've even heard of people using it on guns.

Could be shellacced or lacquered. Was quite common in old days for preserving coins in collections. Some people use ren wax on there bronzes also. I've used treborius balm on a few of my bronzes that where showing green spots.

With a image like that i couldn't say for certain. But i will add I've seen stuff that sellers been selling recently and none of its rung any alarm bells. I tend to avoid "butter lense" photographs and distance photo's lots as it could be an attempt to conceal something.

Thats normal. The heart shapes on all of them for that year , think its meant to be a pleat. I've no concerns what so ever about it. Looks great.

He eventually pulled it for a 2nd time. Not sure why. Perhaps he's planning on relisting it in the future as genuine. They could retract their bids. Its whether they go back over the description and realise. Doubtful.

I used to do it that way frank until i started using the method micks described. I've had more success the way micks described it. Its more specific and to the point. Little concerned now its got bids on it they may not pull it. He has edited the description but once someones bidding on it they are unlikely to go back and read that. Really it should be in the title so technically its still in breach of eBays code on replicas. They should still act and pull it.
