  1. I do intend to push further back in time, but it will be quite a task to get all the images together I suspect. The 2008 edition will be re-type set and will make better use of colour, perhaps having a colour coded outside page margin for each denomination and generally a more modern look.
  2. A photograding website for each type is something I've always wanted to do in order to give people an idea and protect them. Lack of time is my biggest problem.
  3. You can use anything you find on predecimal.com if you write under it courtesy of Chris Perkins and then link to www.predecimal.com
  4. A brass model Prince of Wales Sovereign, or possibly a commemorative coin. Do a google for Prine of Wales model sovereign and you should find something.
  5. For people that simply want to ask a question and don't want to register I have left registration non compusary. Every time we are spammed I ban the whole IP range of the spammer, but it's a loosing battle, they simply hijack other mail servers and get their spam bots (it's all automated, there are no actual people doing it) to spam me from there. The only reason they do it is in the hopes that google and other major search engines see it and rank their pages. They used to register and then spam from a registered account, but I vet all registrants now and rarely let people become members that are based in China, Korea, Russia, the Ukraine and several other No.1 spam lands. I delete it straight away throughout the day, so there is probably lots of spam that only I see!
  6. Good point, it's not even in CCGB.
  7. Great. He bought those off me at the London coin fair on the previous saturday. He does a lot of book business although whenever I see him he never has many books at all!
  8. It's a London Coins thing (although they are very much in Kent). I'm sort of half trying to ignore it, hoping it will go away! They will have an uphill struggle to get a reputation equal to the far from perfect PCGS and ANACS on the other side of the pond.
  9. I don't mind at all if you upload pictures of pictures. I used to like to draw when I was younger, I was quite good at cars but haven't tried for years.
  10. The first edition was published in 1974 (printed 1973). See here: http://www.rotographic.com/outofprint_rotographic2.htm It was based on the late 60's Check your Change booklets.
  11. That's your neck of the woods isn't it Geordie? That area known as '275 miles north of London'?
  12. Quite often coins sell for higher than catalogue price especially when they are choice condition scarce/rare coins, or often even absolutely perfect coins of any date. The best of the best often attracts a premium, and because the best of the best are not sold as often as the rest, they are in huge demand, hence the wild prices.
  13. I've got an early GV 'silver' penny. It's very bright, too bright to be actual silver. And the details are not as sharp, implying that it has a thick layer of another metal on it. I suspect yours is the same, but I'm sure we can confirm if you post pictures.
  14. They were probably ok 8 years ok, unless it was old stock. I heard that the recent ones were ok. Does it have a maker name on them at all? See if you can find out who makes them for WHS.
  15. I know they used to, but I don't know about the latest range.
  16. £10 is expensive, usually they are about £2 - £3 (last time I looked). Don't they damage the coins though? As a dealer I have bought a number of collections including filled Whitman folders. Generally the coins have been toned unevenly and on a few ocassions bronze disease had occured on a few of the dowward facing sides of pennies.
  17. Victorian gaming token, one of the most popular enquiries in here I think! Search around and you will probably find out a little bit more.
  18. They even went to the lengths of replaces the actual date with what look like flowers! Interesting.
  19. Yes, I think there are some 1798 pattern coins and earlier dates too, plus all kinds of later proof after strikes in various metals. I think the 1797 coins were still being struck in 1802, but always with the 1797 date. I'd have to check Peck.
  20. The '1802' has been added by the person that engraved the advert name around the king's head. It's a normal 1797 coin in awful condition, engraved in 1802! (and from the bust type, it's a penny)
  21. Looks to be just a re-cut one. A five would be much fatter and 5 like.
  22. Wasn't it 1871? I have a picture somewhere....Yes, 1871 and die no. 28. I also had a No.101 1871 sov.
  23. They could have made a double headed one quite easily with sticky back plastic.
  24. That's interesting, I have something similar...A Halfpenny that is shilling sized with a milled edge, although the millings are not the same as a shilling. Perhaps someone at the mint was playing around in the late 20's!
  25. Your presidents wife probably has more respect for her than the current president!
