  1. I saw the conversation under "Wanted" about 1865 and 1867 pennies, and decided to check mine. I don't think I need to upgrade any time soon. The likely costs were a surprise to me. I have had these a long time and have no idea what I paid for them - I would appreciate some idea of current market value? The 1865:

  2. I thought I'd share a couple of rather nice rare finds . Both the rare 1913 mules. F175 below

  3. ... and the 1867. Shame about the gash on Britannia's leg, but otherwise pretty decent:

  4. No you will find what you want and know what your happy with, it was more a guide as what you wanted to pay. However ones that are nice in high grade are much more expensive.

  5. Many thanks copper123. Its circulated and a bit worn, but I'm pleased with the 1849, as I am with 1844 (previously shared), 1851, and 1859, but my sole 1852 in the tray will need upgrading I wondered if there is something under the 4 in 1849 ? There is something sticking out under the foot of the 4, which should be blank I think. Of less interest, I also spotted a repair to the A in GRATIA (A next to A) which someone has kindly pointed out with the ding ! Very Best Regards

  6. This is my 1849 Farthing which I bought a while back (just arrived today). Its a new date and I realistically it completes my Queen Victoria date run for Farthings (Copper and Bronze). Only upgrades and possibly varieties to add when I can spot them .. Also my "okay" 1867 Penny (I have far worse in my date run !) . Not intending to upgrade this one Very Best Regards

  7. If it helps, there is a lovely 1866 on ebay via auction at the moment that will be ending soon. I think it will be popular and far too expensive for me! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/326585667923

  8. Funny how the reverse has virtually no edge- I have a feeling that some of my 1909's are like that- what's the explanation? Sorry if it's been discussed at length before, but I can't remember..... Is it time for my walk now?

  9. Before and after using cloudy ammonia that I had to hand. Cloudy ammonia in Australia is 25% with detergent added. I think it has improved the coin marginally but it has removed the green verdigris by the G in GRA. The coin looks better in hand but a very light strike. When I did chemistry at uni it was called Redox, Reduction, Oxidization depending on which way it was going.

  10. Can i ask please what kind of grade you want or price your looking to pay ? They are both scarcer years in higher grades and nice, could be anything from £150 - £700 as a guide.

  11. you know you could be right, the coin although the faults it has doesn't have much signs of circulation wear, and buried in acidic soil makes sense, I cleaned of the crud & grime ....Many thanks "H"

  14. Yes and no. Whilst the world has generally come to accept that imperialism is a bad thing, when the war of ideologies is between fighting for the right to make your own decisions free of 3rd party political interference on one side and a mindset that hates anything not like you or subservient to you, and is intent on your destruction, then I know which side I'm on. People of all countries should have the right to elect a government that reflects their desires, but when that decision is manipulated by outside forces to get the outcome they want, a line has to be drawn. Citizens of the US for example might now be waking up to this point and reflecting. Democracy is a very fragile thing.

  15. And back to the original topic. Today marks the 3rd anniversary of Svitlana landing at Manchester after fleeing Kherson. Time has passed very quickly and I will say it's been a pleasure, with not a single argument arising from her staying with us. Good mannered, clean, we all muck in and I don't think it could have gone better. A few things have happened which were unwelcome, such as her father dying last year, but was unable to get back for the funeral. And this year her mother has finally had enough of the drones and bombing of her village (Bilozirka) not too far from Kherson and gone to live with Svitlana's sister. 3 years on and nothing has changed. The Russians are still lobbing 3 or 4 dozen shells a day into Kherson and drone dropping on anything that moves. They don't want peace. It's Russia. Please Europe, wake up now that Trump has shown his true colours and support Ukraine to the necessary level. We can afford it and Ukraine would make a more reliable friend than the US in the current political climate. Ignoring Trump would not have much of a cost, given his lack of support for the cause, and we can all hope that once he has gone, some sanity will return to US politics, with support for democratic policies and countries. As an astute businessman, he should be embracing Ukraine's offer to purchase a couple of Patriot systems, but his loyalty to Putin and all he stands for has scuppered that one.
