It is hard and takes time to compile a list of threepences when you have to flick through Groom, Gouby, Rayner and Davies! It is exhausting and very annoying if you miss a variety. To add, if you are a new collector it can be a bit difficult and over-whelming to know where to start so a nice easy list is needed - I could have done with it when I started. And it could serve the needs of more accomplished collectors who may have missed a variety (please don't take that as an insult, I know you worked very hard for your collection !!!) So here they are all in one place for your convenience. 1922 DOT , very few known. Not the best but like the others i have seen has the die crack on the V of the obverse ,which is probably the best indicator to check on a picture.

Assuming that there was only one working die for the F27 because of its rarity, then dropped final 1 rules out your example 2 (all the example on my website have this lower1)

I remember that coin Richard. It was sold to me by Laurie Bamford, with the tickets from the Freeman auction as Michael Freemans F-27. THAT coin I'm sure of. In rexamining my posting, I'm now leaning toward the 2nd coin being more of a possibility of being a reverse F with the narrow gap. I'm a little more hesitant with the first coin now. At least I have an undisputable F-27 in my collection. I'm just re-reviewing coins I put aside a long time ago as possibles. Still learning, still searching for varieties, and still looking for an F-19 (among others)

Brilliant. Thank you for finding that. I had borrowed the 1887 and 1888 books and had to scan them myself for the last 10 years.

At least two reasonably discrete true varieties have turned up since the 2* obverse, both overstrikes, the F33 ‘N over inverted N’ that I described on this forum, and the F15 ‘R over A in Victoria’. New varieties still seem to turn up every few years and I am sure more will be found though progressively fewer in this intensely studied series. But you do certainly have to watch out for mistakes in EBay listings, they are not infrequent though usually obvious. Jerry

It was way back in Oct 2014 that I discovered the new 2*, so that's nearly eight years ago now. There must have been many test types made, but after test runs found them to be unserviceable for the long production lines needed were then destroyed with no examples surviving through to the present day . But I guess we'll all will keep looking , as you never know what's going to turn up !!

Volumes 1-12 are available via google books for download. You find them by luck when doing a general internet search. Volumes 13-26 are available via https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/008420717 Some for full down load others page by page. You can download in jpeg, txt or pdf format. The next question is, "how do you download royalmintmuseum volumes?". I can print screen captures using ImagePrinterPro at 800dpi which gives very good results, but is very longwinded. Anyone know how to grab the whole volume using some PC trickery via run on the windows tab. PS. The National Archives volumes are not digitised so personal visit only. Take your phone or camera and photograph each page. I did that in Dec 2019, but covid got in the way for a return visit.
