  1. Just a quick update. It is a nice coin. Probably GEF, maybe cleaned, but i am happy with it.

  2. Hello everyone! This is my first post on www.predecimal.com. I look forward to participating in your forum and getting to know all of you. Born in the U.S.A., I lived in England during the period 1966-1970. That's when I became fascinated by British coins. Back then I'd occasionally find well-worn Victoria pennies in circulation. The first time I found one of those, it was so worn that the lettering was almost completely gone. I had to ask my father who that was on the obverse side. It didn't take me long to figure out that I could learn the history of the monarchy just by going through my pocket change. I don't know much about grading British coins but I'm hoping to learn more through this forum.

  3. If you want them to all be different, you could do a 1753 maundy penny instead of the halfpenny, but the 1748 would have to be gold, any denomination (which I suspect you might be unwilling to fund)

  4. Ah, of course. The Spink 2807 sixpence is dated 1628. My apologies. I have a S2806 (1625), and hadn't taken the time to look further. Rob's y'man.

  5. This is what you are looking for: https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archive/lot-archive/lot.php?department=Coins&lot_id=292646 https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archive/lot-archive/lot.php?department=Coins&lot_id=269573 https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archive/lot-archive/lot.php?department=Coins&lot_id=297298 . Alternatively a 1725 maundy penny is cheaper and there is one on ebay at the moment. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=1725+penny&_sacat=0 I will buy it if you don't. 1745 can be either a LIMA silver coin - the cheapest G2 silver. https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archive/lot-archive/lot.php?department=Coins&lot_id=297314 or a halfpenny https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=1745+halfpenny&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjqiOHgzMrdAhWoDcAKHRFnANAQ_AUIDygC&biw=1920&bih=938#imgrc=AnsudYmpE-K3RM: I have a cheap and cheerful 1745 in the trays which isn't listed on my site yet. 1748 and 1753 would be a halfpenny again - same design.

  6. I think those are the condition I'm looking for - something not too worn and with a good visible date. I'll also look up some coin shows in the area and go 'treasure hunting'! Thanks so much for your time!

  7. Thats not bad for a "rare" 1/2p . 1 of only 190,000,000.

  8. I have an old catalogue from 1938 ,with prices for all the wreath crowns . All are only available in FDC , apart from the 1928 which is available in VF, EF and FDC. Which may point towards some of the 1928 being released for circulation . Only 30 bob for a 1933 ,the rest are between 14 and 16 shillings each .

  10. I do wonder if the "currency" 1928-36 crowns were issued at the face value of 5 shillings. VS, do you think the general public had the chance of applying for a proof at the time or were they just minted for various institutions / museums / VIPs etc?

  12. Quite extensively, by the looks of some of them. I'm not sure how far you'd get these days trying to spend your Charles & Diana 25p on sweets.

  13. I don't think they were intended for circulation, but it's certain that many did.

  14. Glens used to be Graham, Spink was Goddard and Sotheby used a range of names where there was no bidder - cf the Freeman sale.
