Yes. 1847 non gothic was the last circulation Crown till 1887. The circulation ones were not exactly common but the Gothic ones were just patterns. https://en.numista.com/23740 describes the Gothic Crowns

Were gothic crowns ever currency ? Thought they were patterns.

There are four approaches I can see: 1. Break it up and sell it in single lots or small groups on Ebay. This requires quite a lot of effort on your part and will take some time, but gives you the best chance of recouping your investment, or even making a profit. The Coin cases and storage materials my do best. 2. Sell it through a local auction house who will break it down into maybe a handful of lots. It will be bought by dealers, who will break it down and sell to private collectors to make a margin. (Collectors don't generally buy bulk lots at auction.) By the time you have allowed for auction commissions and dealer's profit margins you will be lucky if you get face value for the coins. 3. Find a dealer who is interested and do a direct deal. The price will still not be great but at least you take the auction house commission out of the equation. 4. Sell the best pieces - some individual coins and the storage material - on Ebay and take the rest to the Post Office at face value. It sounds brutal but you will save yourself a lot of effort and end up with broadly the same as options 2 and 3. You have to look at it as making the rewards from enjoying the collecting process rather than profit. Sorry if that all sounds a bit disappointing but I think it is a realistic answer.

I would suggest eBay and selling the coins and accessories separately.

Those George III crowns were struck with a great deal of care (graduated striking and delivered to banks wrapped in soft paper.) The engraving is truly superb.

Then it gets really difficult with the gothic (pricey rather than rare), William IV, high grade George IV, high grade Young Head. That's why I started other denominations.

Truth. My favorite remains my 1818. Got it cheap due to rim damage (possibly jewelry at some point) but AU+ details. Lovely coin.

Certain crowns like the 1927 proof wreath, 1902, and 1887 in particular have very standard prices and are relative safe purchases. My very first purchase was an 1887, followed by a 1927 proof, followed by an 1818 about 15 years ago.

I got a really nice 1902 Crown thanks to an estate sale but the prices of Wreath Crowns made me decide I liked shillings better 🤣

Hello everyone, I'm a novice collector looking for some guidance. I have a collection of mainly British circulated coins and accessories that I'd like to pass on to better hands. What's included: The coins are mostly £2, £1 and 50p pieces, with some interesting smaller denominations. I've got a nearly complete 2p collection running from 1977 to 2013, plus some duplicates. Some international as well, incl. Chinese, Polish. Photos of most coins attached. Face value totals over £160. The accessories include a coin holder album and wooden display box from Safe Albums, along with some Hartberger coin holders. These were worth over £100 when purchased new. My questions: What might a collection like this realistically be worth? I've had a scan online and looks like £300 could be a reasonable price the coins and accessories combined, but I'd appreciate input from people who actually know what they're talking about! What's the best way to sell something like this? eBay? A dealer? Somewhere else entirely? Any advice would be very welcome. Happy to provide more details or photos if helpful. Thanks in advance!

Ever since Michael Freeman gave a degree of "validation" to this sort of flaw by recording the 1897 Dot as F147, more and more examples have been found. The following is an excerpt from the page on Dot pennies on my rarest pennies site. https://rarestpennies.wordpress.com/scarce-dot-pennies/ There are many examples of pennies with small raised circular “dots” on either the obverse or reverse, now thought to be caused by a rust spot on a working die which eventually is removed by successive strikes leaving an incuse area which produces the raised flaw when creating the coin (see my article in Coin News June 2022 quoting Paul Holland's investigations into the cause).

Thanks Bronze & Copper Collector. I agree that the Dansco Albums look lovely and are worth every penny but they are expensive and next to impossible to find in the UK.

Hi everyone , I am new to this forum, but have been collecting for about 4 years , mainly pennies, halfpennies and farthings ( I love Britannia). I have a 1902 HT penny with a dot between the N and E of one, now it did have a bit of verdigris around the dot, but I managed to clean it with acetone (it hadn't eaten through yet ), has anyone else found one similar to this? and yes the dot is above the field, I would appreciate any info on it, thank you in advance. Sorry didn't realize the files were that big

There's any number of online HEIC > JPEG converters.

Type collections don't just contain common coins!! (I speak from experience..). Also, I do have date runs for a few favourite series, e.g. George V halfcrowns 1927-1936, and bronze pennies 1895-1967, though I don't lose any sleep at all over the odd gap such as 1914 in UNC, but I would love a high grade 1946 ONE' penny so I do take your point about filling gaps. But as I say, I really don't lose sleep over most gaps I have.
