I have a motorola Razr and my coin photos with it are garbage. I need to buy a macro lens for my Pentax K3 DSLR instead. The SMC Pentax-D FA 50mm F2.8 Macro looks promising (75mm angle of view on the crop sensor). But I always end up buying more coins instead... funny that! 🤣

I could see doing that but I'd rather give my son a shit ton of good silvers that can be sold here and there as needed rather than everything all at once. I'll never sell any of my collection. But my son is free to do anything he wants/needs to do.

I try to avoid "slabbed" coins as made by the third party grading services like NGC however this time it's worth it for the verification that it is a genuine coin, even if harshly cleaned. In this case, there is a bit of historical significance to the coin. On the reverse is a small trident to the side of the mint mark of A. "A" signifies the Paris Mint and the trident was the privy mark of Zéphyrin Camélinat, who was the treasurer of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Commune">Paris Commune of 18 March to 28 May of 1871</a>. Despite the foot dragging of the bankers and the approaching troops of the conservative republican government, he managed to produce, it is believed, about 75,000 5 Franc silver coins, 30,600 of which were in two wagon loads that were taken to the front lines directly from the Paris mint so that the doomed soldiers fighting for the Commune could receive their back pay on May 20 as the final battles began. <a href="The Coins of the Commune">The Coins of the Commune</a> (the term sou survived from pre-revolutionary France as a slang word for 1⁄20 of a franc - thus 100 sou = 5 francs) One in nearly perfect condition recently sold for $9,000 and fakes are all too common. This one, with the damage from the heavy cleaning - the scratches are quite visible even through the slab - was "only" $295 and moves into 5th place in my "you spent how much on a single coin???" list. It is still a classic example of being reminded to grab the best you can afford because that's better than none. Nevertheless this will be the gem of my French coin collection.

So one of my other areas is French coins. I love their big silver coins. From 1974 to 1980 (killed by the Hunt Bro's attempt at cornering the market) they had a 41 mm & 30 gram .900 50 Francs coin. I still need a 1979 for that series and was looking on ebay. Now melt for them today is $60 USD and I see one at $72. Ok, reasonable. But bad feedback. Look at his other listings and lots of obvious fakes - an 1812 Napoleon 5 Francs for $65 (!) and even more humorously, a Kingdom of Hawaii 1883 (46,538 remain of 499,000 minted) in seemingly UNC condition. If real, an easy $1600 coin. $65 as well. Yeah, I think I'll get my 50 Franc coin somewhere else... Heh. I have an 1887 shilling that was turned into a pendant. I enjoy wearing it I don't know why whoever had that soldered on the top but It's fun to wear as far as I am concerned

The UK £sd may have been accepted but they started coining their own dollar in 1865 with cent coins and going to 50 cents in silver and 2 dollars in gold. I do find the 50 cent coin to have a very beautiful portrait of Victoria. I have too many desires and not enough money, but a type set of Newfoundland coins (one of each denomination & monarch) would be a terribly fun set to get.
