Danz Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Hi all. Just got this 2d. What do you think of grade and possible value. Cheers Dan. Quote
Peter Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 That is a solid EF dingless and not bad for a lump of good cu. Quote
Coinery Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Great coin...fantastic edge (so hard on these 2d's)...nearly cried when I saw that obverse barnacle though! Quote

Peckris Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) I'd say GVF/EF or NEF/EF. You can probably ignore Spink values (somewhat hyped, I'd say) and rate it somewhere between £150 and getting on for £300. But I may be way out of touch; eBay realised prices may be more accurate, though they are usually less good specimens on there. Here's one with BIN of £169, not quite as good as yours http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1797-KING-GEORGE-III-CARTWHEEL-TWOPENCE-Good-Example-/390718230395?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item5af89f0f7bAnd here's one a bit better, ridiculously overpriced at £675 :http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1797-TWOPENCE-GEORGE-III-CARTWHEEL-SOHO-ISSUE-HIGH-GRADE/380780901773?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D286%26meid%3D3492024611283833717%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1048%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D390718230395%26 Edited December 18, 2013 by Peckris Quote
scottishmoney Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 An awful lot of them seemed to have been packed into guns during the Napoleonic wars as grapeshot - based on their banged up appearance.. Quote
Garrett Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Will let the experts grade it (as I dont have the coin grading book yet) but it's a beautiful coin and I would love to upgrade to something like that !! Quote
Danz Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 Cheers for the responses. I'm pleased with it. Have a great xmas . Quote
