All arguments about grade and TPGs aside, I really enjoy both the coins and photos that BRG5658 brings to this thread. Love to see a few more tokens.

Some stonking examples in this auction. Peck will be pleased to see that the TPGs have helpfully given their expert opinion as to the colour of the coins (Brown, Red and Brown, etc) :)

Anything take your interest Brandon?

Look at that...

1798 eh? Wonder what they were collecting back then...

"'Ere you are guv - I've got 5 UNC Cartwheel twopences. You can 'ave 'em for just a shilling"

"Nah. Not interested in modern rubbish. Any news on that Petition Crown?"

I could happily collect only the stuff that came out of the Soho mint.

I was tempted to go after this token but just saw the estimate, I think best left to an aficionado of things Conder.

I'll take those 5 cartwheels 2ds please Peckris.

• Me too, really.

• When I get 'em, I'll let you know - oh, and as we're talking 1798, that shilling I was talking about? Dorriens and Magens.. :D

This is the first Conder I've got hold of. Bath Farthing, King Bladud founded Bath through his Swine.

Nice. I have one of those too. I also have the halfpenny (dated 1795).

Very nice. Can't beat a nice chunk of copper.

It's really pleasing in hand - about the size of the shillings issued in the 18th Century and I think the designs on many of these tokens are excellent. I do have my eye on some halfpennies but I'm trying to exercise patience here as it's not a market I know particularly well and some of the common ones that have gone into slabs appear to be a little pricey when compared with what the specialist dealers are asking for them raw.

Picked up this Middlesex DH-74 in the Chatham auction at Heritage:

Link here.

The slab is all scuffed up, so I'll probably have it reholdered in January at the FUN show in Orlando.

Why would you have it re done .Looks spot on to me its the coin/piece surely that s relevant does it not cost anything at the fun show. What is the FUN show made me smile, cant imagine the same name given to one in england.

Very SOHO England 1797! If you're going to have a slabbed collection, it's an obvious choice to re slab a poor slab!

You won't hear me say that too often, but BRG's a died-in-the-wool collector of slabbed coins!:)

They will put it in a new not-scratched holder. They don't regrade it.

The FUN (Florida United Numismatists) show in January in Orlando is the largest coin show in the United States, and the best show of the year IMO.

I don't understand? If you're going to keep the coin in a slab, where is the enjoyment of looking at it through a scuffed slab?

Absolutely, and we know presentation counts for a lot, it doesn't cost a lot just to have a coin re-entombed (by the same TPG)

The Watchmaker's Arms token. Essex DH35, Maldon. Edge: Payable at W. Drapers Watchmaker Maldon Essex. Really a beaut this one.

Just using the phone on my camera and getting decent photos, probably need a second lamp to light from the left but pretty good considering it's a phone camera.

'Tis a gem that one isn't it.

Here's another good one. Lancashire DH57 in proof. I suspect it was bronzed but the bronzing has gone now and it's toned dark. It's one of the earliest examples with all detail present. Later examples (DH58), probably struck from different dies, lost some detail due to die polishing (no dot after COMMERCE and some ship detail). It could have been that the master die was polished as there are thought to be at least 3 reverse dies for DH58.

One of the earliest examples of the raised edge!, struck by Boulton at the Soho mint.
