MRD Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 All arguments about grade and TPGs aside, I really enjoy both the coins and photos that BRG5658 brings to this thread. Love to see a few more tokens. Quote

Can't beat a nice chunk of copper. It's really pleasing in hand - about the size of the shillings issued in the 18th Century and I think the designs on many of these tokens are excellent. I do have my eye on some halfpennies but I'm trying to exercise patience here as it's not a market I know particularly well and some of the common ones that have gone into slabs appear to be a little pricey when compared with what the specialist dealers are asking for them raw. brg5658 Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Picked up this Middlesex DH-74 in the Chatham auction at Heritage: Link here. The slab is all scuffed up, so I'll probably have it reholdered in January at the FUN show in Orlando. Quote
PWA 1967 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Why would you have it re done .Looks spot on to me its the coin/piece surely that s relevant does it not cost anything at the fun show. What is the FUN show made me smile, cant imagine the same name given to one in england. Quote
Coinery Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Very SOHO England 1797! If you're going to have a slabbed collection, it's an obvious choice to re slab a poor slab! You won't hear me say that too often, but BRG's a died-in-the-wool collector of slabbed coins! Quote

They don't regrade it.The FUN (Florida United Numismatists) show in January in Orlando is the largest coin show in the United States, and the best show of the year IMO. Quote

If you're going to keep the coin in a slab, where is the enjoyment of looking at it through a scuffed slab? Quote

damian1986 Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 The Watchmaker's Arms token. Essex DH35, Maldon. Edge: Payable at W. Drapers Watchmaker Maldon Essex. Really a beaut this one.Just using the phone on my camera and getting decent photos, probably need a second lamp to light from the left but pretty good considering it's a phone camera. 2 Quote

damian1986 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 'Tis a gem that one isn't it.Here's another good one. Lancashire DH57 in proof. I suspect it was bronzed but the bronzing has gone now and it's toned dark. It's one of the earliest examples with all detail present. Later examples (DH58), probably struck from different dies, lost some detail due to die polishing (no dot after COMMERCE and some ship detail). It could have been that the master die was polished as there are thought to be at least 3 reverse dies for DH58.One of the earliest examples of the raised edge!, struck by Boulton at the Soho mint. 1 Quote
