Rob Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed in the next sale that W&W seem to be getting considerably better at matching one or more of the words: poor, good, fair, fine, almost, near, very, extremely, uncirculated, FDC with the apparent grades of the coins displayed in the catalogue and on the website? Change of cataloguer? Maybe somebody pointed out to them that they were all at sea? If this is matched by a willingness to take on board errors and issue saleroom notices, then it might be necessary to revise views on their activities. Quote
Red Riley Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I have to say, that for me the damage has already been done as I barely looked at their latest catalogue. Maybe I'll give them a year or so and see how they shape up. Quote
VickySilver Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Yes, will have to check them out as I had given them up for "Dead" for grading some LONG while ago. Quote
Coinery Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) Hold on Rob! Before inviting everyone to the party, can't the secret few still get their shots off first! I think they are a little bit like Croydon, where attendance is crucial for items not photgraphed in the catalogue! I wouldn't fear fakes with them, though, they have been exemplary in their response to these things!I do like the location of the auction...you can view the lots at their offices, make your way into town and grab a pizza express lunch before firing next door to get your bids in! Nice experience all round! Edit: and as is clear from the responses, not everyone follows their stock list, which can only mean one thing...happy days! Edited October 4, 2013 by Coinery Quote

Coinery Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Not realising until just that nearly everything's photographed in the online catalogue! Doh!My lot looks even nicer online! Quote
Peter Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Thanks for the heads up chaps. I've been trying the local auction house (general sale) but was dragged by my ear out of there by Mrs Peter as Iwas taking an interest in 30 ish large lots of fossils and rocks/crystals.The coins were TAT.They also do a Fine Art auction...can't wait. TomGoodheart Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 So long as nobody bids on my lot, I don't mind! Quote
Sword Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 The quality of their photos (or are some just scans?) has improved but is still not great in my view. They are only black and white for a start and don't show up minor wear all that well. Their descriptions can also be a more detailed. Still, I have brought from them in the past (admittedly a little while back) and will again in the future (but probably not in this coming auction). Quote
Coinery Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 (but probably not in this coming auction).Good! Quote

Perhaps the 4 of us should email our top bids to a 3rd party, and the highest genuine bid goes forth, whilst the others bow gracefully out...no point in the winning bidder paying over the odds, eh?I'm interested in 2 of the lizzies - one to keep, one to sell!
