Chris Perkins Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Yes, had all those been negative, like they should be, then I'm sure he would have been kicked off ages ago! At least it means though, that no one was silly enough to pay that much for a crap coin. Quote

Rob Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I cannot contemplate such lowlife....How do these people ever get on in life?....Rant over..... I must admit, when ebay announced that they would not let sellers leave negative feedback for buyers, I thought 'About time!' - I had not taken into account the existence of such ......... I have never seen such appalling feedback - a direct result of ebay's new policy. There are more crap buyers out there than you realise. I've had more than the odd one or two who have decided they don't want the item before paying for and seeing it despite having used buy it now or decided to leave negative feedback because you had the audacity to send a payment reminder three weeks after the item finished. Some simply don't communicate at all. I think it is wrong that sellers can't leave negatives. In this case I guess feedback has to be a case of abuse with a smile where genuinely deserved. Quote

Have they lost the plot?So now not only have you got to leave positive feedback, but you can't use wording to warn other sellers.Perhaps if they bothered to check the fact that he was using his "ME" page on ebay to sell items, they may look at things a bit different!! Have they lost the plot?So now not only have you got to leave positive feedback, but you can't use wording to warn other sellers.Perhaps if they bothered to check the fact that he was using his "ME" page on ebay to sell items, they may look at things a bit different!!There is a simple answer - don't sell on ebay. The fact you now can't leave honest feedback coupled with the requirement to offer (and in practical terms by default receive payment via) Paypal leaves me seriously unimpressed with the product. I think they have lost the plot. They have forgotten they are essentially providing a service which people aren't obliged to use. They may have a virtual monopoly at present, but the best way to invigorate competition is to provide a crap service which which can obviously be bettered. Ebay is a well known cash cow, so the thought of filthy lucre should appeal to many would be competitors. Put simply, "you don't feed the mouth that bites you"(sic). Politicians take note too. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I just offer my book range and some odds and sods. I gave up regularly selling higher value items there long ago (preferring to develop the website instead), I think probably when eBay bought Paypal. The other day they removed a listing because it had a link to another payment method (card payment via a link). They always say of course that Paypal is safest for buyers bla bla, but that's just propaganda to earn them more. All payment methods are only as trustworthy as the seller offering them.Lots and lots of people are fed up with eBay, but until a competitor of similar size develops with better customer service and real fairness, people will continue to list there. I have something in the pipeline. I don't want to spill the beans too soon, but watch this space. I have registered a Limited company, got a business bank account for it and I am at the stage of working to develop the program to run it on.Of course my site wont be the same size as ebay initially, but I don plan to advertise and offer sellers an added incentive. Who knows how it will do, but its worth a shot. Ebay have had it their own way for a bit to long. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Another friend of mine had a similar idea and even attracted a celebrity to sell their own stuff on it. He invited everyone he knew and sold a whole range of things himself, so did his dad. He even sponsored a football team. Advertised too, but after a few months it sort of fizzled out. And now I can't even remember the domain name, or I'd post a link!I don't want to put a dampner on your efforts Hus (I wish you luck), but I believe that it would take huge amounts of money, massive IT infrastructure (a whole army of Indians at least) and probably an existing household name to really compete with ebay. Even just to complete in a specialist sector like coins/collectable. Whatever happened to Yahoo auctions, why didn't that get bigger? Are they still going?I expect eBay simply bribe any potential real threats with cheaper advertising or something to keep them small or stop them from starting in online auctions. Quote
Geordie582 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 West Cumbria TradingYou are not the only one to lose patience with Ebay! This one started up = but it is too wide a field to be successful, I think. Anyway - no coins!!! Quote

Nothing ventured nothing gained. I plan on making it for coins/numismatics only and I will advertise it in numismatic sites and magazines. I'm not going to give up my day job and I'm going to be realistic. I've had the logo, banners, advertising and business cards professionally designed but as you say I have seen auction sites come and go. I'm just hoping that many have reached the end of their tether and if it works it works, if not, so be it. I just want to offer collectors and dealers an alternative. Quote

Guest PhilipCohen Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 That's one of the disadvantages of not being able to see the user IDs anymore (due to fraudulent Far Eastern 2nd chance offers). Only ebay can now tell if people are Shill bidding, and of course they probably don't give a hoot because they get their fees regardless, in fact if people bid their own items up unsuccessfully, ebay get even more fees.eBay introduces absolute anonymity for (shill) biddersIn Australia, the UK, Ireland and the Philippines, eBay has now obscured auction bidding to the point that genuine bidders have got absolutely no chance of detecting and thereby protecting themselves from “shill†bidding (a criminal offence in most civilised countries) by unethical vendors. Notwithstanding eBay’s statements to the contrary, this application of absolute anonymity by eBay on these sites serves no purpose other than to deceive consumers; and the same criticism has always applied to eBay’s other shill bidders’ facility, “User ID kept privateâ€. Again, notwithstanding eBay’s various pronouncements about shill bidding being banned on eBay, eBay is now effectively (and knowingly) “aiding and abetting†such shill bidders, at the expense of consumers ...If you are an unethical shill-bidding seller or a buyer who is not concerned that on the above-mentioned sites eBay is effectively “aiding and abetting†such shill-bidding sellers to cheat you, read no further; otherwise a lengthy critical analysis of this matter at:http://www.auctionbytes.com/forum/phpBB/vi...6498345#6498345 Quote

Chris Perkins Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 A Fagthing Matron!! Followed by 'Ooo err' Frankie Howerd noises....Slight bag marks on the head!!! Was it stored in a chainmail bag, thrown from hot air balloon and then run over by a steam-roller? Why don't the ebayers come to predecimal.com, if I had that coin I'd consider it rude asking any more than £1 for it. Quote
scottishmoney Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Perhaps it is the draggy appearance of Georgie that made the seller refer to as such. Quote
