I wouldn't be buying it, though I wonder if it's poorly-struck? The details are generally terrible but not all over.

Come on that doesn't reach F .

Mr T I bought a surplus load of kangaroo skin underpants if you would like some....all XF 40.

According to one poster on here XF40 equates to good fine - link to table

Although according to other equivalence tables it equals EF.

Interestingly, even with the poor pictures, I think I can see an EF40 on this coin - HOWEVER it was very poorly struck. Please look at the rims and denticles as well as the fields (as best you can see). That would be a technical grade.

I certainly would skip on it, that having been said.

Isn't 40% Fine on the Sheldon scale?

Opinions vary, apparently.

I tend to use the comparison scale at the back of London Coin Auction catalogues which equates Fine as Sheldon 30 and GF as Sheldon 40. I find it overall a reasonable comparison, markflorida quotes it above. But then I frequently disagree, though usually to a fairly minor extent, with third party assigned grades and of course the coin not the slab takes priority. I have total empathy with Robs acceptability criteria.

Only last week I removed a NGC MS 65 Victorian penny from its slab to remove a tiny (and thankfully superficial) fleck of active verdigris,  you have to be so watchful even of a slabbed collection. I much prefer capsules.

I think this may be a Friday afternoon coin too. MS 67 with all those bag marks? I wouldn’t want it. And the starting price at a European auction is 750 Euro. Fat chance.

That's ridiculous. It might get £7.50 on e bay.

On a good day. The only thing in its favour is that the obverse looks as if it's been Mint toned?

That might put an extra £1 on its  £2.50 value unslabed , I agree the slab might make it worth £7.50

Here's another "bad day" coin IMO; a nice EF+ coin with a few marks on the rim and only an OKish strike is graded in at MS66 ? I thought you were supposed to get "Very well struck with minimal marks and hairlines" at that grade ?

And the price...I've seen better for £150.
