By referring to Richard's site, it's die 7J. Am I correct? Oh sorry, I just found I should post to Halfpenny section, but I don't know how to delete post😅 1 Quote
Zo Arms Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 In the absence of a qualified half penny brother, I'll step in and say that I agree. 7 + J. The extra leaf to the third group and a narrower spaced 18. A wider spaced 18 would be Dracott J2. I'm happy to be corrected though. I'll now crawl back under my stone in the "Halfpenny ID thread" before anyone spots me. 1 Quote
secret santa Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Bought an unusual penny on Ebay recently which had a re-entered G in D:G:, rotated noticeably. 14 Quote

That really has been rotated quite a lot. I found one some years back on an 1861 6+G with the G in REG totally out of position , being low and to the left with the old G showing around it. Though its probably a G over G It could be over a C, but the coins to worn to be sure , and I've not seen another as yet to compare it with . 3 Quote

1949threepence Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 (edited) With the purchase of an 1806 gilt copper proof from LCA last weekend, I've now got all three 1806 proofs from the KP31 die - Peck 1325, 1326 &1327, gilt, bronzed copper & copper. Whilst I've no intention of even attempting to become a major SOHO proof specialist collector (a lifetime's work, pretty much), it's always good to get a few proofs, and these were easy to recognise because of the incomplete 0 and no base serif to 1. mrbadexample Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 That gilt one's a bit of a stunner. 2 Quote

So went for it and got it at my max bid £800 hammer (£946.50 after juice and postage). I did like the fact that it was equally as good in hand as on the pic. Reverse is in fact FDC. Some very slight surface marks on obverse. The only other alternative I could see from the same die, was a possibly even better specimen from KB Coins. But the real downside was that they were looking for £2,250, and am really not convinced its worth quite that much. link 2 Quote
1949threepence Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Very pleased, nay delighted with this absolutely immaculate 1825 in toned a/UNC. 14 Quote
copper123 Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Much harder date to get in good grade than many think - you will have a problem upgradeing it. 1 1 Quote

It would be extremely difficult, as the coin has it all. No blemishes save for the merest isolated speck on the obverse, much eye appeal, and UNC. A truly choice piece which I was happy to pay the high price for. Copper is right that the date is much harder to find in high grade than you would imagine for a date which is not desperately scarce. 1 Quote
secret santa Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Bought this from a collector in Russia - very interesting experience. Emails go through electronic interpretation smoothly and officially they are not allowed to export any coins (and maybe other objects) older than 50 years (or something like that) but it all worked pretty smoothly. He contacted me via my rare penny website. 5 1 Quote

1949threepence Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Very pleased to have now obtained all three reverse types of 1826. Rev A: no central line down saltire, Rev B: thin line down saltire , and Rev C : thick line down saltire. 10 Quote

secret santa Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Got to be the bargain of the week - a genuine double-tailed 1967 penny, bought for £62-50 when a double-tailed 1964 penny sold for around £930 at Spink earlier this year. 1 Quote

Interesting, but are you sure there isn’t a join between the beads and the rim in the first image? It’s amazing what a skilled craftsman can do with a lathe - but I hope I’m wrong. If genuine that would be a great price, though I am surprised that obverse and reverse dies were interchangeable. Jerry 1 Quote
secret santa Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 I'll check - that dark line looks suspicious. If so, then it's still not a bad price for a clever piece of work ! 1 Quote
