Penny Acquisition of the week

It certainly beats my previous specimen, a fine example that cost me twice as much!

I doubt the other will arrive before we leave for Japan and my boys wedding, so here is the Ebay link. An F25, really quite scarce in this condition, and better than my one that I paid a couple of ton for. All for about £14 inc postage.

One thing i would mention .....and to other forum members....Keep any good purchase to yourself until you have received it

Maybe all the unidentified coins coming out of the woodwork on ebay gives hope to all, however I was recently 2nd on a recent "rarer" 1/4d (bid trebled in last 10 seconds).

Another one cracked out of the slab ,looked a few times but .........

Swapped it a couple of weeks ago ,but sure i will eventually find a really nice one.

Not easy to find that are decent but 1869 thats better than a washer

Actually not that bad and better than the picture IMO.

Will sell it at sometime in the future when i find a nice one

Neat - well played, Jerry. Just shows it often pays off to search through the foreign e bay listings. I've noticed that the scarce/rare 1861 varieties are quite often overlooked.

lacquered 1916... but a nice detailed obverse (and poor reverse to make up for it )

1862 Penny, I in BRITT is aligned to the first T and also points to tooth

1861 penny with I over lower I in BRITT

something down at the bottom of the date area cant really tell.

Bought this at Lockdale's recently - it's the Obverse D variant with A pointing to a tooth - I've been looking for one since Terry discovered it. This is Lockdale's photo as I haven't received it yet.

Well spotted! I must have looked at hundreds , and haven't spotted another one. I wish I'd kept tabs on how many, did you? These will remain quite rare, I think.

Hi Terry

Lockdales didn't know what it was and their estimate was £20-30 but someone else knew as they bid me up to £130. Time will tell whether it was a bargain.
