Coin was slabbed MS63. So probably an EF when the tickets were written.

BIRCHALL, SAMUEL (of Leeds) c. 1761 - 1814

I hadn't seen this one already posted, so hopefully this isn't a repeat. This was from the recent DNW auction that had the BRITISH COINS FROM THE COLLECTION OF SAMUEL BIRCHALL OF LEEDS (1761-1814), which I thought was pretty neat seeing such an old collection become available. It is a 32mm ticket written in fountain pen ink. Not sure what the paper is, so I tried to also give a close up of the material.

Philip Hunt, whose collection of halfcrowns was purchased in part by Colin Adams in 2000 (who regretted in hindsight not buying the lot), with the remainder dispersed through Studio Coins (Stephen Mitchell). White tickets written with a black felt tip pen. I don't know if any other sizes were used, but one is 33mm and the other 39mm. The reverse is blank.

I've picked up a coin with 3 tickets. 2 are basic with limited details but one has Patrick Finns name on it and a list number. List 18 which i think is the last list before he passed away. 

Its coin 507 from list 18/2000. Does anyone have a copy of the list or the PF memorial volumes who could confirm if the coin was sold by Patrick? It also mentions ER Duncan Elias as having ownership of the coin at one stage.

The coin indicated is a grand blanc of St. Lo. The Elias ref used refers to 'The Anglo Gallic Coins' with the relevant number given to all the Anglo-Gallic coins in the list and should not be taken as ex-Elias collection. This is an ongoing problem whereby an important collection provides the reference, but gets interpreted as being the coin in question. You always need to cross check this info.

That is indeed the same coin. Someone has marked Ex ER Duncan Elias on one of the tickets and bought from Patrick Finn 18/2000 No 507 Illustrated. I have the Elias book in my library. The type is listed as Elias 288.

Thing is, there were 4 Elias 288s on the list. So unless there is corroborative evidence that it is indeed ex-Elias, you can't use the provenance. In this case, Patrick Finn listed 4 pieces from St. Lo (506-509). The Elias sale (1990) had 3x Elias 288s (lots 417-419), but none of them were the same coins as on the list. So unless there is something else to indicate ex-Elias, I'd ignore it. Some of the Anglo Gallic coins noted in list 18 were ex-Elias, but all were referenced with the corresponding lot number, so can easily be checked.

TopCarp on EBay is John Jerrams (of the Satin penny guides).  The blue ink tickets are definitely Comber, I’ve just checked the tickets of some Lizzie shillings, and a number of Lizzie pennies from two separate Comber sales, they are all identical.

Yes, it's John Jerrams but he seems to call himself Stephen on communications. On a separate note, someone (Bill somebody) last year was preparing a new digital update of John's Bun Penny book but it has never surfaced.

Yup. Left ticket (which looks grey to me and written in fountain pen) looks like Comber's writing to me too.
