Peter Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Strike a light Paul that is a fantastic 1d (I've said it ) I'm sitting here with both feet raised above my torso. Both my ankles have swelled but....going to see a Porsche later today. However the 1d could tick another off my bucket list. Quote

Did research and took advice, but pleased for my first biggie! It's an 1854 Penny, and very happy with the grade ... I can grade I think but anything above aUNC (or MS63) is trickier in these! To get CGS 80 (MS64) was a bonus And the Obverse is every bit as good as the Reverse...nice pick! 1 Quote

Very much appreciated Bob, but surely there are many specialist Viccy copper penny collectors on here for which this is just run of the mill!? I'm happy, so I'll move on to finding a nice example in another area Possibly being hard on myself! Edited July 28, 2016 by Paulus Quote

Just noticed their pics no longer refer to CGS, rather the 'London Coins Grading Service' ... at least that connection will be more transparent then, I'd have thought they would move the other way! http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/img.php?u=39472&f=r& I wonder if they will have the cheek to call it a TGP after this change of name... Nordle11 Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 If it helps anyone, you can see the pictures for your coins if you have the UIN; Using Paul's example - http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/img.php?u=39472&f=r& - if you change the 39472 for your UIN you can see the reverse. If you then change the 'f' at the end (&f=r&) to a b, it will show the obverse. Example obverse - http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/img.php?u=37060&b=r& Example reverse - http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/img.php?u=37060&f=r& 2 Quote

Chingford Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) Signed in as usual, takes you to a page to fill out, at the end asks for payment, doesn't say any amount or what it is for, seems the page you have just filled out is an application to join, but to join what?, it doesn't tell you. Unless you have been following this thread or know the recent history it is totally confusing, still. I put my mobile number on the form, that will be an interesting conversation should someone call me tomorrow. Edited July 28, 2016 by Chingford Quote

PWA 1967 Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 The mail they have just sent me is a bit tricky Quote
Nonmortuus Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I have had the same mail. I wonder how many will take it up. Quote
azda Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 A nail in the coffin perhaps? A £99 yearly subscription to see what you've slabbed? ??? Quote
Paulus Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 This is the same pricing model, pretty much, they had briefly before their £500 lifetime membership brainwave Quote
Sword Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 Personally, I think this is just very bad behaviour. Firstly, CGS asked for £499 membership and published a new price list. Then customers were told that CGS was under "new management". Now they sent out an e-mail saying that CGS has in fact "closed and ceased trading" and is asking for a £99 annual subscription fee for the new London Coins Grading Service. And who sent the e-mail? Ms Cetin herself. Looks like I was right about the change being from Semra in-charge to Cetin in-charge 1 Quote
supermack Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I always had a bad feeling about CGS. Now this has happened. It is very poor form to muck around us like this. Quote

It is scam to get out of any legal agreements for people who paid up to have their coins valued. Now we can't sell them because we don't have access to the photo gallery. Quote
azda Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I think the way the whole thing has been hamdled has been very amateurish, it's been like a car crash, total carnage Quote

Colin G. Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Oh dear...let me set the scene, here is the coin I am selling you it is a CGS graded coin. You want to verify that it is genuine, oh well that will cost you £99 to get on to their site to verify that I am selling you an original coin, or to see the photos to compare it against. This is going to work well for people who wanted to sell CGS coins. Quote
