  1. I took the lot to LCA at the Midland fair today, and met Semra. She had no issues taking the lot back, just said they'd have to check their records before sending a refund cheque out. So far so good.
  2. Dave, slabbed coins have been sent to a grading company, authenticated and graded so you should know that they are not fake and their condition has been assessed. The grading company, in this case CGS, then enclose the coin in a plastic "slab" to ensure the coin remains undamaged, unhandled, and the condition does not therefore change.
  3. If you collected them from circulation then all is not lost Dave. Keep your eyes open for replacements then spend the ones you've cleaned. It'll take a little time but hopefully no expense.
  4. Exactly. Now I get to test Semra's legendary customer service skills. Oh joy.
  5. Well here's my chance to test that. I bought lot 1703 at the June auction. Bit of a punt as no photos, but this is the "11 leaf" 1797 penny they sent me:
  6. I did have a bid on one of those model pennies in the Copthorne Pete, lot 221. Outbid as usual but they didn't seem to be so scarce that I wouldn't see another. Some interesting ones there though, I'd quite like one.
  7. Mind you, with your legendary spelling you probably thought it was correct.
  8. Can't blame you there mate. Troublesome, by the sound of it.
  9. Pete, at times you're a true gent. Just not when negotiating with me. Hat off.
  10. Now you are. You won't make that mistake again, so if nothing else you've bought some experience. Don't give up, keep it as a reminder to take good care with whatever you buy. As TomGoodheart says, we've all done it.
  11. How long ago did you buy it? Do you still have time to return it?
  12. Don't think I've seen one that well struck before.
  13. Can you post a picture of the obverse please?
  14. My word. And to think I fretted over lot 3. I hope they're as good as they look SS.
  15. Pleased with this one.
  16. I like it. Speaks of a very short time in circulation before someone thought "I'm keeping that."
  17. Not bad for £6. Happened to be working in Stratford on 21st April. About the first day they were out I think.
  18. Busted. My guilty secret:
  19. Did you buy the new Shakespeare ones?
  20. I think it's a case of fools looking for bigger fools.
  21. That's what made me suggest it. Lots of people splitting up sets because they want a nice BUNC 50p / £1 etc then selling the rest on. Not something that appeals to me though.
  22. You could buy another one then sell the first set as individual coins. You probably wouldn't lose very much.
  23. Fine seems mean. What's the reverse like?
  24. I did go for the 1909 but was outbid. ?
