That's what made me suggest it. Lots of people splitting up sets because they want a nice BUNC 50p / £1 etc then selling the rest on. Not something that appeals to me though.

You could buy another one then sell the first set as individual coins. You probably wouldn't lose very much.

No, I'm pretty sure I hadn't. I placed about 7-8 bids on the opening night but only about 5 registered. Neil emailed me to say there had been some issues, told me the bids he had and I confirmed the ones that hadn't registered. I actually changed my mind about one that hadn't registered so even though I tried to bid on it, it didn't sell. It's the amount - not a chance I would have bid £66 as an opener on a £40-50 estimate. I'd have bid £40 and waited to see what happened. I don't think it's a mix up with another bidder - I think it's a spurious glitch that's led to a happy accident. Think it looks ok for the price. Might be something to do with the lot number - 166 for £66? Seems more than a coincidence. It was meant to be...

Curiouser and curiouser. Neil thinks I placed a bid for the 1919KN at £66, and emailed me the information from his server or whatever it is. There were some problems on the site on 17th when bids weren't being recognised, so it might have happened then but every bid I initially placed was for the low estimate, just to give myself the opportunity to rebid. £66 is not an amount I would have bid. Strange, but I need an upgrade so have taken it.

To put the boot on the other foot, so to speak, how would you get on with "I bought a penny and you've given it to someone else."? It's a good job we're all 100% honest. Honest.

I've told Neil I'll have it for that if the winner changes his or her mind.

Well, if it got posted to me before the real bidder complained, would I be obliged to return it? "Sorry, I can't remember what I did with it..." Although someone's probably pleased with that win so I couldn't in all conscience do it. I'd be cross if it was me.

I'm half tempted to pay for the 1919KN, working on the same principle.

In the light of Danz's post, you should probably make sure you actually bid on all of those. Now....whose 1919KN penny am I being asked to pay £65 for? I don't mind paying, but I will expect the coin.

Is is indeed, well spotted. I didn't think we were looking at just 1861, although think most of the others are. The early 1860s seem to have the most problems from what I've looked at.

Lot 44 is showing as sold at 1 bid so think that should be mine. Would dearly like to know who outbid me for lot 3. And 131. And 181. And 147. And 210. And 221.

Well if I have, I can't find them. I've got a few missing bits and pieces but not all on the same coin like yours.

Don't think this is terribly uncommon - I'm sure I've got a couple like that. I'll see what I can find when I get back from work.
