  1. And when a farthing may have meant the difference between eating or not eating, if you were unlucky enough to have been slipped one, you probably went hungry that day!
  2. Not at all. Counterfeit, but contemporary counterfeit. A nice souvenir of the everyday lives of ordinary people in the 1770s. Worth a few quid, but so what? The value is in it's age and the part counterfeiting played in the social history of the period.
  3. Here's an official 1674 farthing I have which also displays excess metal. Britannia appears to be sporting a backpack, Charlie has a ponytail.
  4. Much better photos. A contemporary counterfeit. Obverse off centre. Lots of excess metal on the planchet or chunks missing from the die giving the appearance of design anomalies.
  5. Rob is right, no beard, simply a 'mushy' effect in the metal and subsequent wear creating the appearance of one. The placement of letters spelling Britannia is wrong for a Regal issue coin.
  6. Indeed Paddy, it's not even worth the P&P being charged. But then, maybe we're not taking into account the lifetime guarantee of authenticity. You can't put a price on peace of mind.
  7. Above it on the same page I see this being offered. An absolute bargain and 'Authenticity Guaranteed for Life' too . What more could you want? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1931-UK-Great-Britain-Farthing-1-4-penny-PCGS-MS65-RD-FULL-RED-2746/202307415641?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D50544%26meid%3D49d9f899342b451a81dfea5882ae64ad%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D222974628946%26itm%3D202307415641&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1
  8. "All that glitters is not gold ... but it is very attractive toning. " Glisters, dear boy, glisters……
  9. And farthings, but my field is early milled. I'm afraid bun ID leaves me baffled as they all look the same to me!
  10. I've been viewing some of the terracotta, clay, etc. antiquities. The thing which struck me is, no matter what the period or geographical region of origin, they all seem to have the exact same 'aged' look about them.
  11. I noticed this one from Stu too. The seller hadn't even bothered to remove it from the manufacture's packaging. Prize twerp.
  12. Yeah. I've spent the last two days turning over the ground, composting, levelling, and reseeding, in the back garden. In my mind I'm a snake-hipped, eye-linered, rock god. In reality, I'm hobbling about like an extra from Planet of the Apes muttering: '"Ooh me poor back, ooh me poor back'…..
  13. No! No! No! Terrible! The Wombles would've been better. (laughs) That was a novelty record released to cash in on the last gasp.
  14. Buzzcocks? Nowt wrong with them. First 'proper' 1976 band out of Manchester. I saw them play Eric's Club in Liverpool.
  15. Punk/Post Punk-Glam Pete. Liverpool.
  16. And your point is what? People get older and should be called to account for doing so? I'm sure you're an absolute vision of loveliness still. I was 'on the scene', so to speak, back then, so got to meet and work alongside a lot of interesting people.
  17. Debby Harry Pete? Here you go. Read 'em an' weep…..

  19. Desert Island Discs? Eight tracks, surely?
  20. We lived in Cambridge in the early 1990s. I went to a few coin fairs at the Corn Exchange. Bootleg CD fairs too, I think.
  21. I always thought them more as Surfing music on speed. I stood no more than a few feet from the amps at an Eric's show in May 1977. Small club. Low ceiling. Peter's quite correct. LOUD!
