Only buying copper/bronze a lot have an almost pink colour due to spending to long in something acidic such as vinegar. The small scratches is a giveaway along with the fields being different to the devices such as lettering etc.
Your business but i have bought from you Rob and my contact was this site. You are an honest dealer who people trust and if you just were to rely on repeat business as you know it will start to fade. You mentioned putting together a new site and would feel its worth contacting Chris with regards getting more traffic. With regards being insular i have never had a job working for someone else hard work and being nice with people seems to have worked quite well. I dont have any qualifications and dont know much about coins, but feel i am pretty good at making a few quid.
Would you pay to be able to have your link available Rob was all i was asking. If you or anyone else who was selling coins paid chris an amount surely that is just fair and makes everyone happy. You mentioned you have sold a couple through the forum as i am sure numerous other people have. If you were to PAY an amount per year thats not piggyback thats just good for the site and yourself.
None of my business as dont sell coins. However think Chris should charge dealers a one off fee for putting a link to there site rather than not allowing it ?. If someone wishes to use the site to sell a coin regardless of value the site should get something.
I think we should start a punk band Peter and go on tour. Will leave the name of the group to you and the lyrics i will just be myself (a lunatic). Keep smiling mate. Pete. Infact how does....... Pre Decimal loonies...... sound ?.
Looking at coins brought up on here i feel if the seller sets a realistic price it will sell to a member as i have bought a couple. Sometimes i think people get greedy and have an unrealistic amount they want and then the coin wont sell no matter how it gets dressed up. I think forum members would see through that as probably more knowledge than the average ebay buyer of coins. In the case of numerous pennies, they have gone to a forum member and the seller incurred costs on ebay. Lots of LURKERS on the site and feel the seller has nothing to lose if the coin is a realistic price and clean it will sell.
Good find Brian. I bought one the other week and paid about £40 although had some lustre and was a decent coin. Was in the james workman sale but went unsold . Well spotted .
Brian if it turns out to be wrong as the top part of the three looked...... throw it in the bin. Maybe bite the bullet and just buy one for £80 ish,i believe they are becoming more common like the 1863 open penny and other documented varieties The chances of buying one on ebay unrecognised is slim as people are always looking. Keep searching and more importantly enjoy it but remember if the coin is referenced others are looking aswell. I have bought numerous copper pennies looking at the variety that were garbage but always learning and not cost me much to find out. Pete.
Getting there Gary as had another hundred or so photographed yesterday. The pictures look really good but still trying to fill gaps with varieties on the coppers 1825-59. Pete.
Yes i agree on the top curve i would of taken a chance for £2.00 as Brian did and would of gambled ,it wasnt on ebay and for that money can always throw it away. Anyway Brian can you please put the pictures up of the blown up date and hope your lucky. Pete.
No expert and just having a guy taking pictures of some of mine in slabs and raw again today. He altered the background of the obv and rev so they were on one picture combined without any difference in background colour. As an example your pictures of A and E of your posts.
Only ask as some looked chopped and some just normal backgrounds with different lighting. Just something i am learning and wondered if they were the same batch why they didnt do them all the same ?.
I notice coins listed as ex- M.Peake. Being relatively knew to collecting pennies wondered if anyone has any information about him or his collection or weather he was a dealer. I ask as he obviously had a good collection as otherwise dont feel the provenance would of been mentioned. Pete.
