Yes i only look at the P as the easiest indicator to spot.

They only tend to show on coins with good lustre so assume unless its got hold of the coin and is really dark its a nice coin. Have you got a picture ?.

Well two grading companies have looked and they know a lot more than a beginner like me. I probably get fussy when i send them to CGS as dont want to spend £25 to get them rejected. Nice coin , will you be selling it ?.

Not at all if your happy its a nice coin. Just looked like verd on the reverse at twenty five past that was active rather than the large spot on the obverse. A nice coin in UNC.... IMO..... but as you know CGS tend to be strict. Whats your opinion looking under a glass and tilting the coin under a light ?.

You know your subject Jaggy and obviously have an amazing collection. I often look at ones you have bought and all look really nice. Any pictures to share on anything you have bought lately ?. You may be able to help me,i recently bought a copper penny that was in a recent heritage sale 1858 F/B in Def although not described that way. It was in the Bob Bennett collection ,can i assume he was an american collector of just pennies as Heritage/internet does not say anything about him ?.

Discipline and how much do i want it are unfortunately two different things. I can understand the theory but sometimes i have just bought them and crossed it off the list. I dont buy them for an investment i do that elsewere and if in years to come i have paid to much well so be it ,so long as its ok and problem free i am happy. Dont get me wrong we dont want to pay way over for anything but £100 on a coin at £500 + not sometimes worth waiting for another.

Right, doing my best Mystic Meg impression I can see a tall dark short-sighted stranger paying £750 for the F8 mule and £200 for that vile F41. Cant see why he would of sent them to be slabbed. Thanks Rash

Unfortunately some sellers are just greedy and have know morals at all. They are just interested in themselves and not bothered about anyone else. Rant over

Everyone is entitled to sell /ask or buy what they want. Currently there is a F8 and F41 listed on ebay ,both have been rejected by cgs for obvious reasons. Would be interested in any opinions as to what they will sell for ?.

That's absolutely true, of course. I've made several auction bids where the winning bid has been just £50 above mine. As you say, we never know. Putting that link up has made me wish i had carried on

Although it went for £1100 + ,the question is you dont know even if you had bid weather the buyer would of carried on. I bought an F8 ,F9 and 1862 Halfpenny date at the last spink auction ,i might of paid over the odds . The thing is i could of waited a long time to find them in better grades and still ended up paying more , as with the scarce ones you either buy them or keep looking. We never know

As you know Ian the F7 was one i wanted but set a limit of £900 thinking i would be in with a good chance+24 % What was the estimate all about £2-£300 it got my interest Good luck Bernie ,hopefully it was sold by someone who can help you.

Does not cost anything to try Bernie. I did not want to inconvenience the sellers and have asked Spink a couple of questions on previous lots i had bought. A couple of days later the sellers have sent me a mail saying Spink had been in touch with them.

Swanny this is what we mentioned earlier. Sellers can ask what they want and unfortunately some sellers are greedy and unrealistic. CGS give a value on each coin unless rejected (IMO maximum) ,because you know what day it is you can look at another coin to buy or make an offer ,surely recent coins dont need to be slabbed ?. One thing in fairness to slabbers is you sent your coin for an independent opinion and sometimes you or the seller may disagree. If you dont want a guide on grade/value/authentication thats ok and dont send it to anyone regardless of TPG. A few people on here i would send a picture and trust and even then as i recently have sent an expensive coin for grading as i will incur a further cost. I dont sell any and have some i wouldnt send to get slabbed due to obvious problems. You bought a cleaned coin and they told you and thats what you paid for ,what did the seller say ?. In my opinion they did an honest service and if you want to kick up a fuss tell the person who sold it you its not worth arguing. I received two back from slabbing out of a large batch this week and got an immediate refund. The seller knows i will buy from them again and i was happy that the downgrade /problem would not be found in twenty years time. I would be saying thanks to.... CGS...... SWANNY , they gave you an honest opinion rather than told you what you wanted to hear. Pete.
