  1. Midlands coin fair for me -every time - loads of dealers and loads of choice - If you have £20 to spend or £20 000 you WILL find something that you like
  2. A Commonwealth games set just look on completed listings on ebay my guess would be £75- £90 not sure about the edin £1 but you could look on ebay again
  3. Looks like they might date from 1815 or so waterloo and all that (just a guess)
  4. Indeed it is quite obvious that some maundy sets are split up (1849 etc) and the very valuable silver 3d is sold off for treble what the maundy set was bought for
  5. "Yep low risk means losing money against inflation. One could argue wreath crowns are low risk they keep climbing every year." The ones that come out of china every year in large quantities for less than a fiver each are a problem though.
  6. IMO about £150 too much. But there cannot be many about in that grade so the guy has a right to go for a big price. Superb coin by the way.....
  7. As long as collectors hold the above opinion , we will have a very healthy hobby
  8. I am sure i am better off being a collector in the 21st century. Mainly because if i were a collector from the 19th cent I would be six foot under by now............
  9. Yes scott for some reason there seems to be a shortage of 1859 farthings in lower grade maybe it has something to do with it being the last date made b4 the scraping of the copper coins was decided.
  10. I must admit i have sold similar or worse examples for £20 - £25 they really sell well in any grade. Roughly six coins which is aprox one a month have found there way on to ebay in the recent past the only one as a buy it now sold straight away. In fact it is nearly as rare as 1844 in my opinion Contrast this to the number of 1853 farthings currently on ebay and you will see it is a lot scarcer than normally emagined. 1851 and 1852 are also rarer than most folks think
  11. 221600783858Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing.
  12. You can find loads of lovely token halfpennies for £10 or £15 I would not spend less than this as you are likely to get just common low grade coins for £5 or less. They really are a great field to start collecting
  13. Near VF bordering vf with a couple of minor problems. Slightly scarcer date so I would say about £10
  14. To be honest it's to too low a grade to be sure its a no stops obverse coin , i think you will struggle to get more than double what an ord 1718 would fetch in that grade - most variety collectors want higher grade coins than that
  15. Funny enough the norther Ireland £2 coin always seems much much harder to find than its 500, 000 or so mintage suggests - all the others (Scottish ,English , etc), are relatively easy and can be picked up for less than a tenner.
  16. I saw a Led Zep ticket from 1970 fetch over £500 on ebay , 50p was the face value. Pretty good investment eh!!!
  17. I saw ian dury in manchester free trade hall in 1978 totally brilliant
  18. I remember the prices of the tickets as well £3.50 to see queen £3 to see thin lizzy £5.50 the who. Wish them prices would come back you can stick a 0 on the end of any of them to see them now. Plus the cost of actually giging have in real terms actually come down , the instruments they play ect
  19. I don't remember the who doing any gigs in 1978 , had they not just had the death of keith to put up with ? If they did any gigs that year it was only one or two in london with kenny jones
  20. Yes the Manchester museum coin collection is quite underrated - its well worth a look , I think there are quite a few items from the BM there on loan as well .
  21. I know what the royal mint should produce A Yaya toure birthday £5 coin . That should sell at least 100 pieces mostly to the city team and yayas family
  22. Now , now ,don't be bitchy. Numismatics is a broad church. And yes there are , but they are both of similar rarity unlike 1722
  23. 1934 crowns and northumberland shillings are best left to the experts
  24. yes that is a small 9 farthing scott. pity about the grade though you would struggle to get a £5 note for it
