Frank opinions is what I want and expect! It was only a few quid, and doubtless cleaned, but does look attractive in hand ... just wondered what people thought ... knew I hadn't got any kind of bargain or anything! Please forgive me, I bought this coin on a bit of a whim knowing very little about Viccy pennies, copper or otherwise! Seemed the right combination of price, grade, and eye appeal at the time! I am an English Milled Silver circulation collector who likes to dabble in other areas, including everything else, to keep it interesting! Nothing like having a focus! I believe this is a copper Viccy penny, OT and wide colon to DEF, I am just hoping for confirmation of that (or otherwise) and comments as to appearance and grade It has a fairly red lustre in hand, which is good (I believe) and doesn't come out too well in the pics. 18.7g. There is a real and present danger to our hobby, for sure. If TPGs were a guarantee of authenticity that would be great, but they are not. I am inclined to carry out a few market tests, with experienced TPGs, auction houses and dealers. This is very undermining.

In answer to The question i'd say because it's relatively cheap and an Icon of Victoria coinage. Perhaps The buyer is another Scott and does'nt have The 4 figures required to ever scratch a large itch. It is ugly though It must be a different mindset to mine, it might fill the gap but I would never want to look at it again! Each to his or her own!! Every keeper I have must be pleasing, and that includes some coins with obvious problems!

I would rather have a replica than that, you wouldn't want to look at it on a regular basis would you? Just don't get it sometimes! It ticks zero boxes for me, but I kinda guess it could for a completionist who insisted on genuine coins ... I realise the mindset of a type collector like myself is going to be very different to that of a completionist ... mind you I will need a Gothic crown for my type collection!!!

To be fair, Dave, he's only saying the portrait is GEF. Shame it isn't the big crown though!Could do with higher resolution images, really. A lesser mark, but not excessively so, I'd have thought...not that I know anything of value about J1! What you want Dave is this...a genuine unrecorded obverse on this 1564 3d of Elizabeth! I spoke to Chris Comber and he concurs with my thoughts that this obverse was an unused (we think) die from 1561/62. So difficult to grade hammered I think, I rely on eye appeal so much more. I prefer it to the CC coin you first posted either way, it has a nice 'balance'
