  1. Bis usually means again or repeated.

    Trip to UK

Should have tried Fuller's E.S.B. while in London. A refreshing 5.5%.
  3. This does look as though it was copied from the 25th anniversary medal, issued to raise funds for veterans. Although I collect Wellingtonia, I've not seen one of these before and from memory the original medal was 50 mm.
  4. Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or Dutch East India Company. Hundreds of extremely cheap coins for the collector. All sorts of bizarre varieties, and the company ranged pretty much all over the known world at the time. Pretty much like their hated rivals the E.I.C.
  5. These fetch good money, congratulations. The British Workman's Public House Co Ltd was part of the Victorian temperance movement. A rather patriarchal attempt to keep the lower orders sober enough to work for a pittance. See:http://www.numsoc.net/pubtokens.html
  6. Sorry, no chance of remembering. I have a photographic memory for things but, unfortunately not for places and dates.
  7. Value? Hard to tell, it's only the second that I've seen; but don't get your hopes up too much. Festival of Britain material is still relatively cheap in comparison to say the British Empire Exhibition 1924/5, and even that doesn't fetch enormous prices. A fiver is the going rate for most of the FoB stuff, but you might strike lucky with this as there seem to be no matching sales records.
  8. You might just consider this a bit expensive. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALBERT-SCHWEITZER-1965-Lambarene-Brittania-Silver-Box-COA-open-to-offers-/171916449177?ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F0%2Fe11021.m43.l1120%2F7%3Feuid%3D3b6df32f3ab74e56ae1d97d23d0d89dd%26loc%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%2526item%253D171916449177%26srcrot%3De11021.m43.l1120%26rvr_id%3D0
  9. The Paine token is certainly not a museum quality copy. It looks more like a machine token.
  10. It is difficult to tell from your image if the two crowns are identical. My thinking is that the two letter punches (P & V) might be date marks. Very much in the manner of gold and silver hallmarks. I do know for certain that sovereign, guinea and similar coin weights were randomly inspected and marked from the time of George III onwards. Whether this was the case for shop weights I'm not sure.
  11. The two crown marks could indicate that the coin had been weighed and was of the approved weight, i.e. two ounces. These coins were frequently used as shop weights.
  12. "German Silver". In particular the **shole who keeps flogging supposed "Reichsbank" bullion.
  13. I've had some very fine buys from this seller.
  14. The lovely Mrs Bagerap was reading over my shoulder and saw “In Very Good Condition for its age” "Not talking about you then" she remarked.
  15. Probably be the end of New Labour/Tory Lite and might even get back to the original Socialist roots of the Labour movement. The question of the leadership hinges on one crucial factor, who is counting the votes?
  16. I know there's supposed to be one born every minute, but surely anyone can see that this is a pile of ordure? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VERY-RARE-TOKEN-HISPANIOLA-1780-PIECE-OF-EIGHT-UNC-28MM-VERY-COLLECTABLE-V-130-/201403612756?hash=item2ee4973e54 It was even discussed on this site 10 years ago FFS!
  17. Oh, and your fingers will be covered in shiny grey greasy graphite for hours. Wear gloves.
  18. Something to try. Lightly rub the rust with an ordinary pencil, soft lead preferred. Now take a pencil eraser and rub off. It takes off a layer of the looser corrosion without any perceivable damage to the coin. Repeat as required.
  19. Some years ago, I had a recipe book which stated after each presentation" Feeds four, or two Australians"
  20. Also, top left Rev: looks like Charles Hawtrey from the Carry On films.
  21. Two right hand pieces. Top is Turkish 20 para Galata Bridge passage token. Due to a shortage of small change, they became de facto money. Around 1920s IIRK. Bottom right, just google imitation ottoman. i.e. belly dancer coins.
  22. BHM 904. I know of 3 sold in the last few years and the prices vary wildly. £43/£12/£54. I no longer have the notes on these so I can't comment as to condition. And it is also know in silver, although rarer, but I'm fairly sure all these prices are for AE.
  23. I have some desperately sad penny halfpennies.
  24. And of course, there is another side to the Irish story. Whilst the Pols get pay rises, the proles get shafted. Is it starting to sound like the Greek experience? http://www.irishexaminer.com/viewpoints/analysis/irelands-austerity-success-is-no-model-for-greece-340662.html
  25. "Preliminary estimates now are that total offshore oil in Greek waters exceeds 22 billion barrels in the Ionian Sea off western Greece and some 4 billion barrels in the northern Aegean Sea"
