  1. Welcome abroad Jason. There is coins software on this site also look at OMNICOIN. I haven't updated mine for a while. Personally I find the good old manual method works best for me.
  2. Seen on another forum, even do it isn't a British coin the story is still worth a read. LInk to website $1.9 you say? I would be selling that baby, would that be enough to get me a petition crown? maybe some nobles, angles, and a ......
  3. I dont know much about nova scotia coins/medals but its definitely worth at least 50p. Half the fun is finding more out about coins and tokens you come across. An item like that has a lot of history.
  4. Yeh I followed it on eBay too. I'm not sure about it as well. I know trials were struck in various metals and even on leather, but I'v never heard of the mint using plastic. Anyone else know?
  5. 1920 Florin BU MS63 George V I have heard of over grading coins ,but come on!
  6. On another forum someone told me about The books are available for FREE on Google book search Search 'Full View' to find complete books. Like this one: Tokens Issued in the Seventeenth, Eighteenth, and Nineteenth Centuries, in Yorkshire Link Enjoy!
  7. If I was being honest, not much. The damage and amount of wear would put a lot of people off. However on the upside it is a full brockage and like all errors it is certainly a conversation piece.
  8. It depends on its condition, if its a full brockage, probably also its date and even then it would be a guess, as there are no price lists that I know of for British error coins. Do you have any pics?
  9. US $510.01 Reserve not met

  11. Well everyone follows their own path. I too collected and bought lots of coins at first but lately I have been focusing on quality more than quantity. I might save up for a month or two and then spend my budget on one coin as apposed to buying hundreds of coins. I started collecting as a hobby but now as well as it being a hobby I look at it as an investment also. Therefore I try and buy coins (unless rare) with minimal wear. I do not buy coins I don't like the look of. I only buy coins that interest me whether it be historically or numismaticaly. I wont be selling my collection off anytime soon but I would like to think that when I come to retire (40+ years time) or hand them down to the kids that they might be of some value. My father in law in the other hand has thousands if not tens of thousands of coins. He buys bulk boxes of world coins whenever and wherever he can. He then enjoys searching through his Krause catalogues in the hope that he might find a rare date or low mintage and sometimes he does! Again each to their own and as long as your having fun thats the main thing. Also if you find any coins of any value keep them separate. Consider investing in 2x2 card coin holders. Hope you enjoy your hobby and never be afraid to ask. There is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers. You have joined a great forum with many a knowledgeable collector who can assist you along the way. Best of luck!
  12. I also agre with the rest of the guys, just enjoy yourself. I personaly find it hard to specialise. I started off with JUST British coins, then British coins and British error coins. Then a few world errors sneaked in. Now I collect all of the above and also world gold coins. I am also tempted to start collecting Scottish coins!

  15. i used to live in Peebles and got a whole lot nicked, thats why the majority of mine are in the bank as well!! oh by the way it wasnt me!! James you used to live at Peebles? then you'll know the town were I stay, Galashiels? Red I agree with you in that it is nice to have coins to study in hand. In fact I have a lot of (non valuable) coins lying around, plus some medium value ones in a small safe at home but my valuable coins are at the bank. Even if I had a great safe or in house security what’s to stop thugs breaking into my home in the hope that they might steal the safe, coins or frightening my wife etc..? There are some crazy people out there that would steal from their mum for drugs and I'm sure they would steal from me if they thought I kept coins of any value at home. Not that I am some kind of scared paranoid guy, but why invite trouble? Besides its not hard to nip to the bank and get your coin/s out if you want to study or look at them.
  16. Do you have a scanner linked to your pc? sometimes scanners produce clear detailed pictures, although they tend to loose the luster of the coin and can make them appear a bit flat.
  17. I know what you mean! classic film. Incidentally did you know the origins of the two finger V f... you salute was supposed to have came from the battle of Agincourt? Charles VI had promised to cut off the both the index and the middle fingers of any English longbow men he captured so they couldn't use the longbow again. So during the battle they would give him the now famous two finger salute in a show of defiance!
  18. Link To BBC News Edited to update the link, it now works!
  19. | got myself a new coin. 1380-1422 charles vi french ecu'or. It is nicely centered and a nice strike with minimum wear. Hard to photograph through the slab but it's nicer in hand.
  20. The unique collection, which has been valued at more than 500,000, features pieces dating back to 1136, when the very first Scottish coins were minted. A total of more than 1,000 coins were stolen from the home of Lord and Lady Stewartby in Broughton, near Peebles. A "substantial reward" has been offered to anyone who can help recover the collection. ... "We would appeal to anyone who may have information as to the whereabouts of the collection or anyone who has been offered some rare and unique coins." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotlan...and/6283688.stm it was on my local news! I live about 20 miles from there. Lucky I keep my coins at the bank!
  21. I agree with Dave. I too collect error coins and they are hard to value. It is a dramatic error and if you like the coin that's what counts. I personally feel it is a little high but, then again you may not find another like it again. Regards, Hus
  22. Having a clear out! Listing a lot of nice British coins on eBay, and most listings starting at .99p P.S. I will be adding more coins over the next few days so keep visiting my eBay store. My eBay Link
  23. Hi squishycakes. I found it on one of my friend’s website from another forum. He describes it as being: "1901 Victoria Death medal Not listed in British Historical Medals so it's “Previously unknown" in rarity. This medal is Brass measures 22.5 mm 5.2 grms with Victoria on one side with date of death, on the other Edward and Alexandra. No artist name or initials" Click on here for link to webpage As for value, well it is rare but since it is unpublished it’s hard to say. Basically it is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it and if you get a couple of people interested the price would go up.
  24. Mine is a obverse incuse die trial for a farthing, or more likely a sovereign as the die's were used on the sovereigns first then once the dies were considered to be not good enougth to use to mint sovereigns they used them to mint farthings.
