  1. Its been a while since I've been to a coin show. I would like to go down to COINEX this year if possible. Sounds like you had fun josie. I also didn't know that CGS have started slabbing Irish coins now too.
  2. I think your right Colin. On the thick type the border "teeth" have a small gap in between the semicircle and the edge. The "teeth" also appear to be more pointed. I have highlighted these point on picture in red.
  3. Nice picture Rob. It's quite obvious when you see the two verities side by side. The bottom of the C does look thinner.
  4. Thanks for checking them for me Chris I appreciate it. It does seem like a bad design in the terms of getting scuffed and scratched. Arguably a bad design altogether, but never the less a challenge has been set to find a pristine one (if there are any about) and a new side challenge of finding the other variety. Who would have thought the humble Churchill would spark such a debate. Hus
  5. It has the designers initials ON (Oscar Nenom) below Churchill's bust near the edge. This coin was featured in one of the Coin News magazines. Many thanks for the offer wemer but if it does have a scratch it won't make MS65. Hus
  6. I just found out that I have won these. I think I've just made a good buy. I bought these coins for a hammer price of $900 (still have 15% commission and postage to pay on top). The 1879 Sydney Sovereign is listed as £400 EF, £1650 UNC in Chris's Collectors coins GB 2008. The American auction house listed the coins as: 4 Gold Coins Australia Newfndld Canada Britain COINS - Lot of 4 gold coins, Australia 1 sovereign Sydney mint 1866, Newfoundland 2 Dollars 1888, Canada 5 Dollars 1912, British Sovereign 1879. British Sovereign 1879??? in actual fact Sydney mint.
  7. hi i have a church hill crown 1965 in what looks to be excellent condition if your interested Hi wemer1, Yes I am still on the hunt for one, but it needs to be truly uncirculated with no scratches, much luster and minimum (preferably no) bag marks as it needs to grade MS65. Do you have any pictures of it? Thanks, Hus
  8. Welcome to the forum Richard and congrats on a lovely find.
  9. Yes they are typically referred to as gaming tokens. Sometimes you come across one which has been gold plated and people confuse them with George III spade Guineas. You can find a picture of a George III spade Guinea on my website link below: http://www.coinsgb.com/George_III/992-Guinea.html Regards, Hus
  10. Thanks Chris, Don't ask me why he wants one but he has been kind enough to help me out with something so I am trying to help find him one.
  11. I know many of you will laugh, but it's not for me (honest ). What I am looking for is a Churchill crown in brilliant uncirculated condition. A friend over in the US wants one that is going to grade PCGS MS65. I guess for a type set or something. Anyway I am on the hunt to try and find him one, although it may not be as easy as it sounds. Due to the design of the coin with its large fields it is prone to scuffs and scratches, and the fact that many people don't handle them with any care and throw them about as they are deemed invaluable. Anyway can anyone help? (seriously) Hus
  12. A lot of nice coins coming up in this sale. Pity they will be out of my budget. http://www.ngccoin.com/gallery/millennia/index.asp Since its linked with NGC I'm guessing they will all be slabbed too.
  13. They seem to be sliding down the commercial path. As long as they don't start making something like this : http://www.corvettedollar.com/
  14. I use electronic Snipping. I like using it as its easy and you can fire and forget about it days before the auction ends. I decide on my top price fire it in and take my chances. You do get more of a rush doing it manually though, and a lot of the US auctions end at silly o'clock in the morning. There's no way I'm staying up to 3am on a work night. I've seen the price of things I've sold on ebay double just before the end.
  15. Hi oldjoe. Like all other users of the forum, I too would vouch for Chris's trustworthiness. If you just want to find out what the coins are then you could have a look at my website www.coinsgb.com as long as you can make out a date or a monarchs name you should be able to find out what they are or more about them. If you get stuck and are able to take a picture of the coin why not post a picture on this forum and I'm sure someone will be able to help. As for values, my site doesn't list values but I would also recommend buying one of Chris's books as a guide. They are very competitively priced and informative. Being able to asses a coins value goes hand in hand with being able to grade the coin. This process can take a while to learn and I'm afraid many beginners tend to overgrade their coins as they would like their coins to be worth more than they are. Good lick and haver fun! Hus
  16. If it is a Peck 2171 that would be a great find. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Regardless it is still a great coin. I love coins out of the ordinary, hence why I collect errors. Hus
  17. Nice one Gary congrats. If decide to sell send a pm my way.
  18. Sounds very BLING!

    what?

Bargain Simple answer no I can't see anything special about it. Unless its a gold trial strike which he's forgot to mention.
  20. Are you sure its gold? The reason I ask is that gold does not normally tend to weather much at all (even in salt water). It may be a token or gold plated. Do you have any pictures you could post?
  21. Welcome to the forum silver. Feel free to post any questions about coins I'm sure someone will be able to help you. Oh and Chris's bark is worse than his bite. Joking apart he's a good guy with a lot of knowledge and always pleased to help, as are other users of this great forum. Hus
  22. Welcome aboard Joe.
