1. Congratulations on the win Ken. It’s an interesting coin. Feel free to email me a wants list of any sovereign types or die numbers you are after and I’ll keep an eye out for you when I am in some of the coin shops over here in Edinburgh or at the local fairs. My email is sulo@coinsgb.com Regards, Hus
2. Yes I think so. I don't think there is much competition. I subscribe to it and I do enjoy reading it but there does seem to be to many adverts in comparison to actual coin related articles in it. I do like to read about the auction house results (although I don't sell or buy much through the auction houses). I also like the coin clinic section where people ask and try to find out what their unknown coins are, but you get a lot of that on these online forums which are fun to read. The lexicon section is also quite interesting.
3. The sheep and flag design reminds me of Nuremberg coinage. A similar design can be found here: http://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotviewer.ph...92&Lot=1029
4. Sounds good Chris. Have you seen whats available on YouTube for numismatics, nothing educational or worth watching. I remember seeing one on coin production, I think it was a clip from the "how do they make that" series on discovery. It was very interesting seeing the process in reality. Do you mean this one Colin: Video of modern coins being produced at the Canadian mint.
5. I just received my two copies of CCGB2008 (one's for part of my father in laws Christmas present). It's a great book which I would thoroughly recommend. I especially like the way the different sections are colour coded and the way you have used two alternative tones of colour to separate the different dates and prices. Kudos to you and keep up the good work Chris!
6. Thats a great looking Mary Ryal! with a lovely original tone. I have always loved the Mary Ryal design and also the James VI Silver Thirty Shillings, Ryal or Sword Dollar. I would love to own either one. Great acquisition Dave.
7. Nice coin Teg congrats! Its a great sense of achievement when you finally get hold of a coin you have been after for a while. Hus
8. Feel free to use any pictures if you want Chris.

I put it in the next DNW to be auctioned. Its the first time that I have ever sent coins of for auction and it will be interesting to see how they do. Has anyone else ever sold any coins through an auction house and if so how did it go?
10. Thats a nice looking pattern. One which I would like to own. I have to say though that George III looks a little angry and in my opinion he is depicted somewhat differently than he looks like on most coins and medals.
11. It appears as though this coin is back on the market for all those that were interested in it before: http://cgi.ebay.com/1965-Churchill-Great-B...1QQcmdZViewItem and check out its new price.
12. An EXCELLENT addition to your library........... I agree. Even if you don't want to start collecting Bronze varieties it is still a great book to have as a reference.
13. I just bought this software: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Coin-Database-Softw...1QQcmdZViewItem It looks quite user friendly and useful. It says you can edit all the drop down bars so if for instance there is no 1/3 farthing section I should be able to add it. It worked out to cost a little under £10 ( I didn't pay for postage as its available to download ) which doesn't seem to bad as I have seen some US coin collecting softwares priced at $100. I will let you know what its like once I have tried it.
14. Not as bad as this ebay listing was.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=018 Great coin Rob. It's a super find. BCC I saw that listing too and even from the bad pictures thought it can't be a small (narrow) date. Which brings me onto a post I had on another forum in were I was shocked to hear that NGC do not guaranty the authenticity of the slabbed coins claimed variety, only that the coin is genuine. As you know the difference in a coins variety can be big difference in value. So if you bought this coin and it was genuine but not a small (narrow) date variety NGC would not give you the book value of the small (narrow) date coin. Moral of the story I guess is if buying a slabbed coin don't accept what variety it is stated to be on the plastic but do your homework on varieties before buying.
15. Its not to say your books are useless however some collectors really collect on variety and the smallest difference can make a coin rarer. The best guide for the bronze coins is Micheal Freeman's “The Bronze Coinage Of Great Britainâ€. This book is great if you really want to tell each bronze coins tiny difference and variety. Again though this book only covers the bronze coins and so I use it in conjunction with my other books. There isn't an ultimate book as such. All coin books have their good points and you will find as your collection develops so does your library.
16. Congratulations. You can tell a lot of work has gone into it. An excellent, informative site. P.S. Had to edit the post because I tried to put a hats off GIF on but it didn't work.
17. You could be right Geordie. I found some interesting BBC news articles about it: LINK
18. I'm having trouble with the main site. Since formating the my C drive the other day I have had trouble in re-downloading the site builder package. When I do I am hoping it will still work as I saved all the site files on the D drive. So it should be a straight swap over and hopefully it will work or else many tears will be shed by me. So all this means is that I can't make any changes or do any work on the main site at the moment.
19. q I don't think the quotes are working yet but its nice to see the forum returning back to normal Chris.
20. Christmas tree coin Go on you know you want to look.
21. $525 Realised Price at auction: Link to teletrade auctions Now what did I do with that bottle of methane?
22. Some of you might have heard about COINEX. It's an annual British coin fair which is held in Earls court London during the 28th and 29th of September. This year there was what has been described as a professional theft during the 28th. DNW the auctioneers were targeted and many highlights from their previous days auction were stolen. They include a gold patter Guinea 1787 by L.Pingo, a pattern 1820 £2 in gold by Pistrucci amongst other patterns and Charles I silver coins. Anyone with any information should contact DNW via: Tel. 020 7016 1700 email. auctions@dnw.co.uk
23. Sorry to here about the bad news Chris. If it was spammers they are starting to stoop pretty low. My Windows wasn't working today and I tried repairing it which didin't work so I had to format my C drive and do a complete re-instal. Needles to say I lost a lot of work and programs. I have never understood the people whom deliberately destroy other peoples hard work or that deliberately spread viruses.
