  1. Can anyone help with this one? It is rather worn but an unusual shape: Thanks in advance.
  2. On the subject of two headed coins. A while ago I bought one raw on the Bay (pretty cheap too) but I was sure it was genuine. So with the help of someone I know in the US I sent it off to NGC to get their opinion, and I was very happy when I found out they agreed. Ok it's not British, but I still think its quite cool.
  3. Hi Andrew. Nice coin and great find, but as Chris says definitely not a EF closer to VF.
  4. The size of this collection is amazing. When Ira and Larry Goldberg went on the search for these coins for their client, they were told that the budget was pretty much limitless. The goal was to assemble the greatest collection ever of the world's rarest coins, in the highest grades possible. I'm sure it will bring in some record prices.
  5. I think a lot of the coins will be out of most of our budgets, but we can still look and drool. <a href="http://www.mkjassociates.com/cgi-bin/ilgvutoc.pl?sale=46" target="_blank">http://www.mkjassociates.com/cgi-bin/ilgvutoc.pl?sale=46</a>
  6. I don't know much about silversnowball, but I do like those ice cream snowballs Adams the ice's sells on a Sunday night.
  7. Without any provenance or guarantee I wouldn't risk it Gary. I know there are bargains to be had out there and new discovery's to be made but there is also money to be lost in the gamble. I doubt it will be going cheap.
  8. Good luck with the book Dave, I'm don't know if I can be of any help, but if so, feel free to ask and I'll do my best. Let me know when it's finished and I'll give a shout out for you on the forum or CoinsGB website. All the best, Hus
  9. Thanks Ian. Its an ongoing project and there is still a lot I would like to add. A lot of the members of this forum were kind enough to help me and donate pictures for use on the site. Regards, Hus
  10. i see... so do you think the coin came from them? I have never seen one like it before, i've been searching the net for days trying to find what it is. Although not the young head type, here's some on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-Model-Imitation-VI...tem170204972581 and even a Half Sovereign version: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOY-MONEY-HALF-SOVER...tem160220398361 Some people collect these, and I think they would make a neat collection.
  11. B.P. stands for Benedetto Pistrucci the designer. Here's a link to my site, where you can see mintmark locations depending on the type of Sovereign you have. http://www.coinsgb.com/Edward_VII/991-Sovereign.html http://www.coinsgb.com/Victoria/991-Sovereign.html Hus
  12. Well thats a lesson learned for me too. I have used Western Union before and I thought their "code number" security sounded good. If the money went missing and you didn't give out the code out, then WU should pay as their teller in Russia has been untrustworthy or even worse in cahoots for a cut of the money.
  13. Did you ever get your money back from Western Union Chris?
  14. Lovely medal, with a lot of history. Thanks for sharing the pics and the information on it. Out of curiosity do you know if the piedfort gold version is still about? possibly in a museum or private hands?
  15. I recently received the four gold coins I won at the US auction and just got round to photographing them.
  16. I spent one in a local shop once. The lady behind the till was a bit apprehensive but in the end accepted it.
  17. Chris I see that in Collectors coins GB you value the 1879 S Sovereign at quite a high price in UNC. Can I ask why? is it due to some auction results? its just the price in Coin Yearbook (News) for this date in UNC seems to be a lot lower.
  18. That's exactly why I checked it out with you first. I became suspicious that perhaps it wasn't a proof. You confirmed my suspicion and I have altered the listing accordingly. What more can I do? You did the right thing altering the listing Ron, but in future I would suggest not listing a coin as a proof unless you are sure it is one. If your unsure why not ask on this forum and someone will help prior to listing the coin. Hus
  19. Yes. As said a lot of them are fakes, however there are some genuine ones. The genuine ones are often referred to as errors but in actual fact they are more mule's. You could not produce one in the mint by error as you need to have two matching dies in place. British ones are rare, some European ones are more common. Like the Euro cent I own. I have also got a Thailand one baht with two obverse images. There are some British examples for sale at Northeast Numismatics with prices ranging from $1650 to $6500. Link below. http://www.northeastcoin.com/inventory.jsp If you can post any large detailed pictures of it and the edge we could have a look, but the chances and odds lean to it being a fake. All the best, Hus
  20. Chris can you check your inbox. I tried to send you a PM but it says its full.
  21. It looks Roman, but I don't know if its genuine. We'll have to see what the Roman experts think.
  22. Nice find Martin. Is it just me or does the date on the slabbed coin look doubled?
