  1. Some more hoard news http://www.culture24.org.uk/history-and-heritage/archaeology/art512480-a-tantalising-mystery-the-story-behind-the-huge-anglo-saxon-coin-hoard-found-in-buckinghamshire
  2. These are from Krause so prices are in dollars VF20 EF100 UNC225
  3. Definately a repro
  4. K***2 with a 224 feedback won it Plus he never got anywhere near the 2k what he was obviously angling for as he usually does in his "suggested" price text
  5. Hopefully it was'nt a friend who was offering them, you should ask (for fun) where he got the Henry VIII
  6. Well on my travels through internet land i found this for $2300
  7. A trained chimp with a zero feedback could fool some of these idiots who use ebay. Since When die a £2 GOLD coin Have GILT written over it
  8. Personally i like her
  9. Was There another 1902 in the same auction that may resemble what you got? Perhaps they've mixed up the Coins and whoever has yours in'nt going to be complaining
  10. What exactly should we be looking at?
  11. I'm assuming Prax that you've worked for CGS grading coins?
  12. Well lets hope you don't get the coin back but if you do the pictures will be interesting. You should download and keep their lot image just incase it disappears
  13. Goom, The coin listed with London has a pronounced "dot" on the obverse (under the ear, and below the hair)...I would think that would be a sure way of telling if it is the same coin! You are looking at the September auctio Bob And not the December auction with the same lot number. Soooo anyway we know how the secretary i's but not giving ANYTHING To compare against is a bit pointless. What i Would say is that there seems to be a scratch on the OBV assuming we are talking about the florin? This runs from the F in FD and goes towards the nose, so a bit of a marker IF it's the same coin or not, but Take pictures for us next time because we're ONLY going by your say so against what we can see on their website
  14. It's good to hear that people are finally passing on some Heritage offerings, it might bring their estimates And expectations down a little
  15. Not by Spink but by coincraft and is quite good. Is was something that was sorely needed doing and I'd recommend anyone to buy it, having the Spink and coincraft side by side is quite useful, there are hints and tips in the coincraft book plus some pricesP.s, I'd always advise anyone to buy the book before the coin and Spink is the obvious candidate for a large date span of coinage and is'nt expensive
  16. Hmmmmm, i would disagree There Mark, books should be purchased before making expensive mistakes when purchasing a coin. Read the subject matter gives a better idea at what you're actually looking at and a 2nd hand Spink won't cost the earth nor does the new coin craft book, perhaps £50 for both.
  17. Mark, there is an upgrade to the spinks coins of scotland, ireland etc. twas published late last year by coincraft and is a cracking book
  18. You seem To be bouncing around almost every coin denomination from pre decimal through to decimal And from hammered through to milled and from all quarters of The UK. Your best bet i's to look through a few hundred pages of the "coin aquistion of the week" thread and see what exactly tickles your fancy. No One can tell you what will be the best Coins for you, that's down to what you like.
  19. More hoard, i think the finder i's trying To do The jedi mind trick On the BM regarding his statement of £200 a coin, this Would be correct in auction of course, but this is the BM who will be making an OFFER http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-30654568
  20. If verd i's toleranted Then it should be tolerated and not just When it suits a particular coin Or rarity. Prax above mentioned this coin May Have been One of his He Sold in 2009, so Obviously not
