  1. Is there a way of adding coins that are not listed? If so I think I'll buy the full version David Yes you can add a new coin or variety. Right click on the denomination you want to add in the collection window and then select Add Coin(s). Then scroll to the bottom in the new window that opens and you will see "Click here to add new variety". Just type in the year and press return. You can then add any new info required for the coin you have just added. It's all in the manual which you shoud get with the trial version. Thanks, that works! Also now worked out how to add my foreign "pennies" Looks worth the money David
  2. Happy New Year to you all! Here's wishing lots of nice new goodies for everyone in 2011......... ...................unless your bidding for stuff I want :) :) :) David
  3. I think we need a higher res scan of the date

  5. Downloaded the free trial I can add a coin and picture, but don't appear to be able to have a type not listed in Krause, So only one type of 1860 1d beaded border. Can have hollow neck 1911 1/2d but not the penny. Very frustrating, I'll have another play later David
  6. CoinManage UK 2011 - UK Coin Inventory Software anyone tried this software looks like it may be useful David
  7. My family variation on that was 'enough blue to make a sailor a pair of trousers'. Yes, we were told the sailor variant also - except it was 'mend' in both cases, not 'make' (perhaps it was a smaller patch of blue sky? ) My mother always said "It's going to be sunny if there's enough sky to make an Englishman's trousers" followed by "Bloody Englishmen". This was all in Welsh of course. She was North Wales I guess? As a Scouser we were always told that they were the "unfriendly lot" - mind you, putting up with scousers trailing through your country must be a bit irritating! Liverpool was never really an English town, before the great influx of Irish during the potato famine, it was known as "Little Wales beyond the Dee" Both sets of my grandparents were Welsh speaking Liverpool Welsh living in Walton. When I was a lad in Bootle, we had three churches with the notice boards in Welsh David :-)
  8. The Paris mint did some nice 1 franc coins, reprising some of the classic designs from previous issues, for example the Dupre obverse from the 5 centimes an5 to an9, pretty damn well true to the original Be nice to see some of our classic designs reissued, but sadly I see coin design degenerating in the same way our stamps have (Machin definitives excepted) David
  9. As someone who collects world copper and bronze, I find the Krause books invaluable. My set is a few years old now, so I just use the prices as an indicator of scarcity David
  10. I agree!, it feels like real (Lsd) money, chunky not like the rest of decimal stuff David
  11. Agreed! but also the whole area beneath the lighthouse is also weak, the appears to be no L in LCW My Freeman 6 is in lousy condition but a much better strike also is it my imagination, or is a there slight difference in the position of Britannia's thumb relative to St Georges cross?? David
  12. Speak for yourself! I'm stlll digesting my lunchtime goose.......... ..............and no Dear, I'm not ready for some tea
  13. I've got both Freeman and Gouby, but I still haven't got my head round all the penny dies for 1860 to 1862 David They are not too difficult when you see good pictures of EF coins, it's when all you have are worn specimens that are in the price range most of us can afford David
  14. Yes Freeman 6, Gouby 1860E Gouby has £500 in AU75
  15. I've got both Freeman and Gouby, but I still haven't got my head round all the penny dies for 1860 to 1862 David
  16. I can't see anything on either the Aldi or Lidl websites, did find this though on Amazon is this the same one? David
  17. Seasons' greetings to all forum members old and new Virtual drinks all round  David
  18. Nice! Never seen one like this, probably a clogged die I have a similar French 5c dated (1)900 David
  19. agree the obverse is horrid, and at £450 too rich for my budget; so will have to stick to the one I have, GF
  20. That's going a bit far Peter! A genuine VF 18KN should fetch £25 or so - there must be MANY collectors who want "above average" but can't afford EF or higher, and would cheerfully pay that. And I'd say the VF 1893 should at least be a few quid too. I think you're being too pessimistic. If you're not, then I will happily pay 99p to buy a GVF 1918KN off you I'm still looking for a half decent 1919H
  21. You'd need to be a cockney to understand that one. Got you Threepenny bits, gits, right? Bristols?
  22. Define "recognised"! 1887 and I have exchanged views, pictures, and expertise (his more than mine), and the upshot is that it should appear in an upcoming book he hopes to write on the subject. We both agree that it is a previously unknown variety. However, getting other people interested is a MAJOR task. When you consider some members of this forum have orgasms over a nearly-disappeared half colon, you would think there would be more enthusiasm really. It only goes to prove the old adage "MY variety is interesting and endlessly fascinating. Yours? Pah." I think this true in all areas of collecting. The way to succeed is to collect something no one else does; write the standard work, then make a bundle selling you collection Before Peck and Freeman. very few people collected copper and bronze. The little book by ?Harris reprinted by Spink "European Copper Coins" recommmends them as cheap items for children to collect. The Peck & Freeman varieties ar here to stay, only time will tell whether the Gouby classification gains credence David
  23. That's how the bankers always end up on top!
  24. Countdown wasn't working earlier, not tried it since
  25. Yes got most of those, there are also a lot of non-Commonwealth penny sized bronze coins worldwide, some very hard to find at reasonable prices, Keeps me out of mischief though
