  1. or just 1906 was a horrible year for striking.
  2. i have a couple of farthings i have identified from colin cookes collection, into william III, there is probably more to discover.
  3. there are other silver ammounts around the world. russia used .900 US silver dollars are 90% so perhaps some of ours are around that now as well the paper one is french, so about the same size as a predecimal penny
  4. yea... i want this...but little doesnt mean under £20. so..
  5. lol. calcuim coin in UK..... go to market, open pocket... poof Helium coin? wonder if they will make a 1 OZ one of those... oh and my ceramic coin got another i havn't upladed yet. and i tink my dealer has some PAPER coins
  6. those prices o.O
  7. Bought a few silver dimes for £2 each I pick up wheaties for 10p often, usualy only take the good ones or pre 1940.
  8. all i found are Belfast by the load. seems the Florance nightingale £2 have started to appear as well
  9. nice, but a waste of genuine old coins to do it.
  10. better available online resources would help. we can buy books on varietes Etc, but those are expensive so a lot of people will not have the access to the information on die types, let alone distinguish 1 from another (epsecially when its such a tiny differance)let alone find the few online pictures of such. perhaps we can start doing that here? links to good sites to view Varieties, etc a bigger resource pool people can access. we have a book on grading, which i have, and use, as i feel it is more or less spot on, we can forget orgnaisations, especially as they use the US system. as for fakes. here is a solution, a fair few people have found fakes and shown why they are fakes, now there is NOTHING (and if thier is its not easy to find) that shows common fakes and how to spot them, we know about china and thier fakes which people have identified here, perhaps it is time we had that facility. people will try to pull the wool, other times it is a genuine mistake, but sometimes its knowledge that is the problem. education is key. if such a site was put together and then put in the infomration on ebay (you know, there is a bit with articles) it would be a lot harder for the conners, to con, and the people buying can make up thier own mind.
  11. seems to match up in terms of date numeral placemtn and missing colon, there is a verd spot that looks like a .
  12. bought a bunch of very worn coppers that look like they are from the ground, one of those fathings was in there, quite worn so they DO survive. but yea mainly rivier finds for this sort of thing.
  13. more then mine, i guess. found Guildford which might fit the missing space more after in
  14. dunno, there seems to be a D at the bottom, and it was in a bunch of thames finds.
  15. i'm saying the same, have a couple of 1953's that have some rainbow toning.. they came in sets so. probably the same reason i sort of like it though.
  16. poor? thats fair. and £102 a;ready.. sheez
  17. yes farthings, i had a few of the wren ones from stuff from grandparents when i started out. my first Farthing purchesed was for another purples, a cheap ( yea they good for that as you said) example of the design, £6, trying to get a good example of viccy copper was out of my range at that time. that was this one i do need to update the picture at some point though >.> also my first Ebay purcheses was a bulk buy of farthings, mostly though, having a good look through bags of more modern farthings, found a few high EF and UNCs from 1900-12 and an EF 1861 for only a quid or so. my radius reaches a bit farther back as i do enjoy anything from Charles II onwards as there is so much going on.
  18. looks VF+ got this 1926 sixpence not long ago for a couple of quid, to me the detail on this is better then that shilling, and i think my sixpence is EF
  19. thinking Henry II? scottish, i know that
  20. got the date person is Thomas.
  21. only like 11k minted, so i havn't seen one either. i have an 1888 though :/
  22. there is a 1732 on there prefer the ebay 1
  23. great fun these williams. I like looking at other examples of the same date to see what i have, you can get lucky. have positivly IDed a william using other examples, and showing other details of the coin i couldn't see properly to positivly ID until afterwards. try having a look through the stuff on Colin cookes site, he has sold a few Williams in collections shown on there, there are quite a lot of pictures etc to look at.
  24. dont mind that much, edge knocks are just part of the process imo. toning, always nice to have some, I look for it in silver, it shows that it is Genunine age. dont mind a fingerprint so much on EF stuff
