Not stating the obvious ie gold or THE VICTORIAN gothic crown one series that I get excited about is copper between 1672 and 1724 (the William coins being the exception because good coins are so rare). Many an evening I drool over my early farthings and 1/2ds. I really can't put my finger on it but quality Croker coins which were used every day are in my opinion the most beautiful. To think some of these were used to buy a loaf of bread or a pint of ale and not hoarded like gold or silver makes them special. I don't try to collect perfect examples but nice coins with eye appeal get me everytime. When I go to the Midland coin fair there are trays of gold and silver glinting away....lovely as they are....when I can find a quality copper piece at a reasonable price I'm a happy man.

That is a shame. It could be plugged but it would always be evident. Its hard to put a value on something which has been damaged (us collectors are a fussy lot) I've got a plugged 1699 farthing in my collection because it was really nice and I paid only a few £ for it....but I also have a lesser condition one that is just more worn.

All the George V1 farthings looked previously polished...with this one in question recently buffed up. Unless a clear close up photo is available (or a contact nr for the coin dealer) I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I would buy a book first and maybe learn a little about the subject. Collectors coins GB 2008 which sells on this site for £4.95 will help you stop wasting your money.

They were stamped for various reasons....maybe an apprentice or it could be a love token (but these were usually in silver) its just a bit of 18C graffiti & your guess is good as mine.

Why does he dip half decent coins...& Mackro...sounds a bit fishy to me.

Welcome Dasha1 The fact that your coin is very worn unforntunatley means it will have little or no value. It is also quite common for coins of this period to have initials or letters stamped onto them. But by almeans post a picture if you can. Peter

Panterex Good start on Omni coin.It is a good free facility which I also use. There is nothing of "real" value but some nice coins all the same. If you PM me I will send you a few UNC 1/2ds free of charge...over the years I have picked up a few mint tubes of various dates. Everyone has to start somewhere....you will learn and upgrade....although one bit of advice....try to concentrate on narrower areas...maybe George V1 1/2ds and get the best grades you can afford. As a general rule I classify George 111 onwards as modern coins. & Pre Charles 11 as getting interesting (ie hammered) although some milled types were occasionally produced. Your 1928 6d is 50% silver and in its time would of bought quite a lot......interesting in itself (but only as old as my father in law )

It is a Henry v111 coin but in very poor condition. Ebay will find its level but I can't see it making more than £20.

The bottom left is a 1797 cartwheel penny and the bottom right is a 1953 crown (it appears a bit edgy). Even if perfect condition the crown would only be worth a £ or so. The penny is also poor condition and previously polished....you might get a £ each on Ebay.

Geordie You can always get Krause from your local library.(I have had more of a problem on getting 1600-1700 on a regular basis) Like you I've only got the 1901- edition. I've also seen a Spanish seller selling them on CD's The Anglo French hammered series fascinates me....it makes you realise were aren't as squeaky clean (English,French,Norman) as we now like to label ourselves.

Andy Your crown is reasonable as it seems free of large rim dings and bumps. However,even a bad photograh cannot conceal it is very worn and a filler piece for a collector at best (and as Chris said it is a common crown) I reckon you will get about £12...& NO I won't be bidding.
