I'm not trying to Hijack this topic but at the age of 7 I knew all my tables to 12....my kids haven't a clue and they are teenagers. The tables were drummed into me together with the alphabet,fractions,%'s...basics of getting along.
Reminds me of the old Benny Hill sketch of an Englishman going into a German/Dutch grocer's store which went something like this; 'FUNEX?' 'SVFX' 'FUNEM?' 'SVFM' I think you really needed to be there. Don't forget FUNEMNX
There maybe many in bank vaults or in deceased collectors collections(bit of a mouthfull). Surely the market dictates on what is available. Hammered is a different kettle of fish as only us coin nerds could differentiate.(or want to) I think when you specialise you become the expert. There are a few 1/4d's that I always look out for.
Unless you are from Norfolk Nice observation on the florin.....my grandfather always gave me pre 47 florins which I spent at the sweet shop..DOH My other grandfather had a huge collection of pre 47 silver of which was never found.
BTW facebook is causing a few issues and is worse than friends reunited....phone or polite letter from now on...I met my wife at 24 but before I wasn't as pure as driven snow...sometimes memories should be just that.Plus her EX'S after their failed relationships try to hit on her....what do you do?...coins for me now and trying to keep Mrs Peter happy.... I love her thruppeny bits and hope she likes my nice hammered.
We lent Benty go for about 3m....a bargain..however compared to Town strikers in 70/80s he wouldn't tie their boots. However we have a 17 year old in Conner Wickham who will kick ass...hopefully on Tuesday.
We use baby nappy sacks for the dogs whoopsies.....far cheaper than pet shop versions. I've used olive oil on lesser Romans which have may have been buried for 2000 years and had good sucess...it takes a long time...I recently found a cup full(2 years in the oil but 75% are now keepers). Don't know about the baby wipes...a bit of soapy water and a pat dry is as far as I go...however I usually only buy nice coins Baby wipes are good for the car (and beach) to clear up messy fingers.
Poor lads...we just don't understand them...the surname is so funny and must be a millstone around their necks...maybe they should change it to Pleasant or Goodchild...stop drinking and treat other people with respect..can't see it happening. Can't we export them to Aussie?..or even a arab nation who would soon sort this scum out.
I would expect something between £10 and £20...it has had a hard life but still keepable. If you get a fully struck well rounded London eddie it could be worth £50+ a bargain in my opinion....and some of the rarer mints a lot more.
There are so many interesting places to see...we still discover new attractions....I haven't been to London for a couple of years...and don't miss it. The internet is a great help in planning your trip...we all have our preferences...just extend your stay and don't buy all the coins.
Bob I have a lot of US connections my aunt married one of your guys and I also worked on the US base at Lakenheath for 2 years..don't bother with London the rest of the UK is so much nicer...The Midland coin fair at the NEC in Birmingham is great...use laterooms to pick up the bargains...we often stay at the Ansty Hotel or in Coventry village hotel for our family trips....when you get to the NEC the wallet shakes....be there for 10am...take a good glass and lighting because it isn't always good....the bigger fairs are 4 times per year the next one is in March.
Bob Know your good dealers and stick with them...I once ordered a coin from Colin Cooke and he phoned me to say it wasn't for me...top bloke sadly missed.Everyone likes a good deal but there are a few on the bay. I'm going through a clear out and ID'ing coins...I did hear of a dealer picking up a collection of Liz 1 coins worth about £10K for £50...a disgrace. My coins are uninsured but I have a Springer and feral cat to ward off nasty types. My pal collects Geo 11 furniture and doesn't bat an eyelid at coffee cups on the table....they are to be used but not abused. My terror is my 13 year old daughter feeding my 1/2ds into the 2p machines at the slot machines....however my eldest is a bit smarter as she does my pictures and loads the stuff on ebay in seconds.....however she believes Ebay money is hers.Luckily the wife hasn't seen me sneek a few £ out of my account...I have promised a round the world cruise in 10 years time. ...I would prefer 2 weeks on a Greek Island holding the tummy in with Raki, squid Mataxa 3 4 or 5 and coke...4 of us used to get bladdered on less than £10.
They price themselves out of the game with their grading...absolute farce...I was thinking of getting a couple of raw coins slabbed but will ignore...both are BU and a blind man could grade them.I might have mentioned before a farthing sold at their auction for £90 was slabbed by them(dodgy) and was priced up at £150 It had edge damage which was covered by the slab....another dodgy dealer...be aware but there are good dealers out there.
