It is nicely centred and a pleasing coin.Snap it up if its been attributed to Henry 111.

Don't get me wrong.It is a very rare date(maybe hyped a bit). For my money I would go for 1835 or 1903.

A nice coin but has been harshly buffed.It is a shame. No disrepect Az but I couldn't live with that.

How very dare you...OK pennies have moved on but 1/4d's have had nothing since. Peck is a building block.I don't use it every day but it is a resource I couldn't do without. Mr Peck I salute you.

The 1842 is a nice GVF 1/- There is a lot of wear but eye appeal is good.

If the date can't be read...oh dear...is it off centre? I believe a picture is required.

I've had a couple dozen NGCs that were incorrectly attributed and which I cracked out. Checking the label is a really good way of getting a bargain, because they get it wrong on a regular basis - usually failing to identify a rare feature. My 1839/41 proof halfpenny in the unlisted varieties section springs to mind as an obvious failure; or Hus's 1844 1/3 farthing described as a half by PCGS despite not having the words HALF FARTHING in big friendly letters on the front (with apologies to Douglas Adams). I have no NGC's but a few PCGS of which I haven't a problem with.I also have a few (self certified ?)NNC slabs...again the coins seem OK...I bought a VF30 1859 farthing and it is abt VF (Shamrock detached ) I also have a BU collection of Mr Adams radio series on CD & the TV series on DVD...thank you Amazon and my girls for listening to what Dad wanted for Xmas.

Don't jest....some early slabbed copper I have seen is an utter disgrace....even dealers stated grades (VF for issue,what is all that about?) It is either VF or it isn't. Logistics means all three graders need to be sitting in adjacent offices otherwise special delivery costs will price you out of the market....unless say 100 coins could be done and then posted in one package(I'm thinking on the hoof now )

OK everyone mentions CGS....but what about sending it accross the pond to PCGS or ANAC's...they turn them around quickly and appeal to our US buddies (who probably own a large proportion of the worlds rarities).

Proofs...ummm...they have always been out of my reach...or what do I actually prefer?...an Unc currency or FDC proof? I will stick to what I know until I have Robs millions....and then it would probably be hammered gold and sorting out the best in the world copper 1672-1724 currency of course If only. Though if I did have millions, I'd be into proofs, patterns and currency, hammered and milled of all types big time. Or to put it another way, if I liked it I'd buy it even if I had a nice one already. Current funds don't always run to a type example, let alone one in top grade. I still buy when maybe I should refrain...My silver collection will be trimmed to just a few prime examples.A GEF 1915 2/6 no longer does it for me. ...Maybe I will add a couple of proofs. I need to lick my paws and narrow my collecting interests...however I can't resist a bargain.

If you walk around the Midland looking for a common coin like a 1758 1/- you will see huge differences...then look at Ebay and say you bloody idiots. How can you catalogue a coin worth (in my eyes £20)and its selling between £15 to £125

Yes, but not on bronze. There is/was an odd light greenish tinge on the reverse, in artificial light, to a 1923 a/UNC shilling I bought in August 2009. Leastways it was visible for a time. When I just looked a few minutes ago it wasn't there ~ or didn't appear to be. Definitely not verd, but a overall slight hue. Lord knows what causes it. Greenish hue on silver? Are you sure it's not simply the result of past long-term storage in pvc coin album pages? If it is, acetone works wonders. I bought a bulk lot of Unc (recent) 2/6's and they originally had a bad green hue due to pvc storage...I will try the acetone trick to completely cure them.

Numishoro Where did you actually get the coin? If you paid more than £1.50 you need to get your money back. If it was a dealer some of us can you if he/she is a crook. If you still think it is authentic send it to be slabbed at CGS. My 1st and only fake purchase was down to me being greedy and buying on the strength of a poor photograph. If I was buying expensive early hammered I will only part with my money with a few trusted dealers or inspection by hand.

The last one sold for £17,800 in 2008 and that was a worn coin and was sold by a small auctioneer "oop Norf". Imagine selling it through a London auction house with publicity.

We were talking about coin mags on another thread....This is why I still have my old CM's but the Coin News are usually binned after about 3 months.

Rasmssen sold one in 2006 £37,500. probably a doctored 1951 so £122 is a lot pay for this.

There are 2 known examples and one of those is in British museum.You just wouldn't put it on ebay.
