  1. Even though I'm not a dedicated penny man...I am tempted the 1827 is so nice and will appreciate.
  2. My girls seem to believe Dads wallet gives birth to hard cash. Last night we went to the school Xmas fair and I think I may have bought my own Xmas present. The mulled wine was good...I bet it would start my lawnmower. I must locate a decent coin for Grandma to buy for me.
  3. I went out today for an extended lunch and had the pleasure of an afternoon on more wine and Ebay....what a load of tatt.My eldest daughter has just found my banknote and cheque albums and insists I sell them as I don't have a keen interest....she will be after my fossils and Jazz mags soon. She see's my paypal account as an easy touch....whatch out for teenage daughters my eldest says I'm loaded...I'm not but she is clucking at my collection and a life time passion...it would quickly go to New look etc.I mentioned the gold could go...but at the expense of better copper...none of the household women were impressed.
  4. The YH (BUN) of 1887 are sought after. I bought a GVF 2/6 for £40 from a dealer....it wasn't GVF but I kept all the same...It was the fine price...the dealer is an expert on tokens...I also got a 1875 small date 1/4d and a 1849 1/4d both EF for £6 each. There was a dealer at the Midland Coin fair who had ef 1869 1/4ds for £5 each..I filled my boots...just know your subject and enjoy. No one is a expert on ALL coins.I once went to a coin fair and ended up with a 1750 holster pistol..shot myself in the foot.Alhough after much debate with Mrs Peter she has forgiven me.I've bought more treasures than turds...and I married her.
  5. Tin farthings...ermm...I have an example but when a tatty one is worth £?...I will look elsewhere. A nice one for a tenner Scott. A big lottery win maybe would help...but copper is (to me) Nr1

Ebay has destroyed our grading system when their fines become EF.A recent coin fair a dealer was selling F 2/6's for (and marked GVF) When I made a commet he did take offence but the neibouring dealer backen me up. Some dealers both online and at fairs are the exception...one dealer I orded from phoned me to say I wouldn't like the coin.
  7. Don't flood the market...I remember when Mr Cooke bought a hoard of 1886's and still has loads left. Imagine a hoard of 1717's or 1698's It took me a long time, patience and expense to get these at the right price and condition.
  8. She makes me wear the red cords and tweed jacket plus she bought me a bottle of musty aftershave so I could fit in completly...bless. But when you see some guy unroll a wad of notes for an Oxford shilling plus the conversations are always polite maybe we have got it right....Even some of the dealers leave me to paw over their coins trusting me not to slip one in my pocket. Its just respect and a nice day out. I do wonder why there haven't been more muggings....I often walk in with several £100 and walk out with a ruck sack full of coins. Try the Ansty Mcdonalds hotel they used to do a family room for £99 which included dinner and breakfast....plus their selection of malt is unbeatale...although expensive...good pub down the road
  9. Colin I tend to go when we can have a family weekend away either staying at Ansty Hotel or the village in Coventry. However we now have a Springer it makes it much more difficult. Otherwise its a sprint up thhe A14 early Sunday morning.....its often an expensive day out Where did all the 1825 farthings come from?I seem to have amassed loads of 1720's and 1853's with the early farthings there are so many varities....I have to keep them all. I need to spend some time on my farthings as the collection is out of control.....luckily there are few winter nights ahead. I use your website but it makes my collection grow Plus my wife has dropped me off at the fair before and has commented on the sad so and so's with their note pads and wants list...I don't think I'm quite that bad...yet.

Wellcome Rob and be wary of theses buggers sniping you on Ebay
  11. Buy the best you can afford. Quality is always sort after...bide your time and the select coins will come along. I go to the Midland coin fair maybe 3/4 times per year but I don't pannick if no purchase is made within the first hour. I've bought a few duds from Ebay and dealers....another tip is eye appeal a grotty EF is useless against a nice GF. Good luck on your hunt....I've probably made only 10 purchases over the last year with hundreds over the last few years an expensive lesson.
  12. These are issued every year by the reighing king/queen...not a lot of collectors as they were never in circulation apart from the 3d...about £80 to £100 max nice for a keepsake but not a sought after series. I haven't even tried to get some and being an avid collector says a lot.
  13. There isn't a good method of cleaning apart from soap and water
  14. A load of 1925 2/6's were sold in Aussie recently....they are not rare....a 1835 2/6 or even a 1915 farthing a 1894 halfpenny.....don't tell spink
  15. and then circulated in the workers pocket for 147 years...there are some thick people out there.....ocean finance anyone or the wonga people who charge 2500+
  16. I have a Nikon D40 and although a few years old I wouldn't swap it. If not too serious a Sony Cyber shot is always a good bet.
  17. Herr Rob My wife is Northern Irish and wasn't brought up on credit...However £60 dissapeared from my wallet overnight and my daughters and wife just laugh... Even the dog gets steak. I must admit to a bit of pampering and me and the cat know our place....in the study and out of the way of eastenders, waterloo road & X factor and also providing a taxi service FOC. However I still indulge in a few discs.
  18. credit was available to people who couldn't afford it. I blame the media and dot com. If you can't pay cash don't buy it.
  19. Drop the spam and add musturd and you will have a meal for kings....and possibly a bucket of red
  20. With the mess we've made of the economy, it's hard to see any bullion price returning to those levels in our lifetime. My daily commute was 180 miles so bugger the poor and have nots On the subject of the economic mess, I was reading that a million $ packed really tightly into a brick of $100 notes would rise approximately four and a half inches off the table in front of you. Want to guess how high the repayment we and our children have to make would rise off the table in front of you ? I'll tell you. 71 miles.
  21. We sold out when in 67. We had 240 pennies to the pound all with Brittania. I remember searching through thousands of coins and coming up trumps. My collection of pennies aveage GEF from about 1880...all from circulation Mum and Dads card tin did that although great help was also greatly received from friends and relitives.
  22. Wrong if I team it up with roasted monkey nuts, qualty malt and another bucket of red.
  23. I shall have lobster, scallop's and mash with a bucket of good red.
  24. I do prefer quality fish and chips or even a good chinkie(and not to mention an Indian)....Luckily I eat salad and have to run around in the shower to get wet.
  25. Actually my cardigan is flavoured with Madras and Greene King IPA so I look forward to it. Not so sure about the slippers and wife's vest. See me on Petermunchingwool.com
