  1. I will give it VF. Imagine sending it out for slabbing.
  2. Luckily for me the Misses has just bought me a 1717 farthing in EF and let me jump on Kelley Brooke for a while(it would be swift) Ebay is as good as it reckons...top class....buyers and sellers be aware.
  3. I won't buy a new copy until they print in the UK...Spink take note.
  4. My fantstic wife bought mine from Spink many years ago....hence I'm still married....she still had the nous to speak to Colin Cooke....such a shame for us 1/4d mongers. One day the 1/4d will rise again.
  5. I relented recently and got 12 months of coin news...it is only £34 but...Coin monthly was so better...but hey.
  6. I still have my Coin Monthlies from that time! Amazing how every other dealer advert was for "investment opportunities" involving massive numbers of common BU late 60s coins. What was heartbreaking was the prices of early milled where it was on offer - 1675 farthing GEF £12.50, anyone? In one of my old mags the 1960 crown was claimed as the nr 1 investment....common G11 silver such as 1758 shillings or 1746 lima halfcrowns were cheap as chips....I think a study of the web, auctions can now identify true rareities.
  7. Security had to be good...imagine a mint worker sneeking out a £5 bag of BU 1926 ME 1d's. At £2,000 a pop they would be worth £2.4m at todays prices....I would retire and feed them gradually into the market (when funds were required.) A 10% discount for forum members would apply
  8. I like new jugs on my lap aswell...sorry Red
  9. Hi Chris Any news on CCGB 2011 being published? I love a new book to pour over.
  10. Hi Palves - Try this site http://www.measuringworth.com/ppoweruk/ Geoff Interesting site Geoff....and a cracking coin and photograph.
  11. and I held onto the shillings because of getting less than £2 for the 1st half dozen.
  12. Hi I believe the 2nd and 4th coins to be London mint and just make out or on the third which indicates Canterbury...the rest are very difficult.I will the guess smallest coin could well be a Henry V11...but I stand to be corrected.
  13. I keep all the old CC farthing catalogues together with most of the standard references.I also use the internet.
  14. You will need to post a picture...if real it may appeal to error collectors but value wise there is no guide it will make what someone is prepared to pay.
  15. I doubt if it's a proof set. They issued PVC packs of business coins, many of which may now have gone gloopy. I have the proof set and the plastic set £50 and £6 max
  16. The proof set of coronation coins maybe will get £50 on ebay...I paid £55 but a set sold for £46 recently...don't believe pricing books.
  17. Looks dodgy and 1965 crowns....50p a shot.
  18. I'm not trying to Hijack this topic but at the age of 7 I knew all my tables to 12....my kids haven't a clue and they are teenagers. The tables were drummed into me together with the alphabet,fractions,%'s...basics of getting along.
  19. Reminds me of the old Benny Hill sketch of an Englishman going into a German/Dutch grocer's store which went something like this; 'FUNEX?' 'SVFX' 'FUNEM?' 'SVFM' I think you really needed to be there. Don't forget FUNEMNX
  20. There maybe many in bank vaults or in deceased collectors collections(bit of a mouthfull). Surely the market dictates on what is available. Hammered is a different kettle of fish as only us coin nerds could differentiate.(or want to) I think when you specialise you become the expert. There are a few 1/4d's that I always look out for.
  21. I got mine in a package which I believe had Steve Cram on the front...value about £4 or £5 less Ebay/paypal fees so maybe £2
  22. It is still cheaper and easier than going to coin auctions....just sit on your sofa with a malt and a fat cigar.
  23. Spit it out Peter. Red.... I like my coins round and well struck with a nice bust.
  24. Unless you are from Norfolk Nice observation on the florin.....my grandfather always gave me pre 47 florins which I spent at the sweet shop..DOH My other grandfather had a huge collection of pre 47 silver of which was never found.
  25. BTW facebook is causing a few issues and is worse than friends reunited....phone or polite letter from now on...I met my wife at 24 but before I wasn't as pure as driven snow...sometimes memories should be just that.Plus her EX'S after their failed relationships try to hit on her....what do you do?...coins for me now and trying to keep Mrs Peter happy.... I love her thruppeny bits and hope she likes my nice hammered.
