    Coin albums

I use trays but they are not fool proof...hence my wife dropped (before decorating)4 trays of farthings and mixing all my varieties and tickets up. Try looking for an aluminium case which comes with 6 trays to take different coins.Very reasonable(£20 or £30) and the coins stay put (I use 2 of these)They also act as my chosen method of safely transporting coins.

    Coin albums

You can buy ones which require stapling together but I would recommend the ones with self adhesive (you live and learn)

    Coin albums

You can purchase 2 x 2 coin flips which fit into some coin album pages or simply store them in a box.The flips can be written on and give the coin some degree of protection. I think we all started with albums. You can buy them on this site.
  4. A nice bit of history...nearly 200 years old. The silver content is sterling (92.5%) and would of bought a meal and flagon of ale in its day.
  5. Seaby 1972 VF £90 EF £125 I have more in the loft I believe.
  6. As I told my wife when we first met "sometimes you just have to take what you can get pet" 11 to 20 known i think i read, probably rarer that the 1903 open 3, so you may be quite correct in your statement John, one sold recently on ebay by alfnail, think it was AVF or less, went for 500-600 quid or there abouts, let us know when its on fleabay It's not mine Dave. It's in an auction. I agree with 49. Regardless of how rare it is I wouldn't touch that. & some of these "rareities" must be sitting in attics and grannies drawers and even collectors scrap tins.(as was proven on a thread here recently).
  7. Would it be Charriots at midnight? & I don't think she likes Italian.
  8. Dave You said Brianscoins won the original auction. Did i?, soory, i meant winning. You have email. All is explained.
  9. Dave You said Brianscoins won the original auction.
  10. I think you mean 2p not 1p !! To me, the supposed scarcity of 1988 £1 coins is something of a myth. The mintage figure is high enough, but perhaps they really ARE scarce. If so does anyone know why? I think they are the the best looking reverse for £1. I took a few from circulation and they are not common.I believe I spent them after finding an AUNC and getting the 1988 year set. Ones from circulation do sell for a few £ on ebay.
  11. I see the 1936 wreath crown is back on....ummm Brianscoin? the plot is thickening. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1936-GEORGE-V-WREATH-CROWN-EXTREMELY-RARE-/330583898897?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item4cf855fb11

    hi all

Brilliant Uncirculated....ie full lustre. Unc is as probably you have guessed "uncirculated" and part or all of the lustre gone. Welcome to the forum.
  13. Boadicea all the way & I'm Iceni related with a bit of Roman,Celt and Viking thrown in no doubt. Mumbai had initially to be explained to me...I thought the Company that I was working for had changed their IT back up from Bombay. Yes they were still crap and about as much use as a cat employed as a mouse catcher in a fish factory.
  14. We have just been given a trial Tastecard (1 month) which gives us 50% off or 2 for 1 on food at selected restaurants.I've just searched local restaurants and there are only 3 that offer this deal. However if you use the Money saving expert site there are many free vouchers/deals available.I highly recommend this site. I've used it and made a lot of savings and picked up many usefull tips. OK some of the posters have a whiff of dog blanket about them (especially in the food/supermarket section)but it's well worth a search.
  15. On the OTHER hand - coins like these are on eBay all the time, so if you managed to get 99c per item, you'd be laughing! Laughing I'm sure as you trapse backwards and forwards to the post office.
  16. Try selling them and you may have difficulties in raising a few cents. The "large cents" maybe worth a dime in copper.
  17. Newcastle is in Scotland...isn't it? I prefer Sunderland as they have just loaded us with cash for Conner Wickham. Enter stage right John.
  18. I note that on Colin Cookes forum the shilling boys have been named. The problem sellers on Ebay either do it on ignorance or sheer scamming. A couple of the former have withdrawn the items straight away. I have emailed the "lucky winner" of the 1562 coin.I believe in this case the seller was ignorant although he wasn't going to add anything to his listing.
  19. I've loved a Mandy and on a Thursday...luverly tuppenny and thrupenny bits The silver discs you can keep.
  20. Why would anyone gold plate an unc lustre 1910 1d? It must of been badly stained...and why would anyone want a gold plated coin?
  21. "Basted" Maybe the coin was laid by the goose that produced the golden egg.
  22. Ras The 1799 1/2d is a beauty and with unlimited funds maybe. An Unc can be picked up for around £100 ($150) and paying 6x this for nice lustre doesn't enter my coin buying agenda. As Asda said "Expensive"
  23. Apart from the spade gaming tokens that so often get incorrectly described I have noticed this 1562 Liz 1 pewter lump appearing on a regular basis. I emailed the seller and he replied (in text speak) "Sir,I certainly do not know what one is saying and quite frankly old chap I do not understand your concern. It has not been described as an original and I thought £10 a reasonable start for me to dispose of" It made over £50 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270764539236&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT At one time it was possible to email the buyer but I suppose at the end of the dqay ...a fool and his money...
  24. Quality control appeared to be non existant so I'm sure larger flaws are out there.
  25. You mean all that cleaning he did was in vain? Lol, i don't think it was cleaned Peck, he just could'nt up the grade (like he normally does) because of the obvious wear. The original seller had it listed as AU am sure, 1949 had mentioned it to me sometime this year when we were talking about buying key dates and i said i did'nt agree with jmb4homes grade, it seems i was right, the wear on Britannians legs and on Victoria was evident from the original dark pictures from jmb4home On the flip it was marked at XF which is a VF+ in our terms. The edge bruises were also mentioned.A fair seller it seems.
