  1. This incredibly rare coin... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HENRY-III-VOIDED-LONG-CROSS-VERY-RARE-MIS-STRUCK-/350857855016?pt=UK_Coins_BritishHammered_RL&hash=item51b0c20028
  2. A very warm welcome to you, William!
  3. My thoughts, too. So many of these 8s are listed as overdates on eBay - perhaps the SCBC should note them in their next issue to clear up some confusion.
  4. He seems to specialise in bullion nowadays with his price list for the likes of "silver hammered pennies" seemingly only applying to the most common issues.
  5. Very much so! I have bought a few things from him over the past few years.
  6. House clearances would be my guess.
  7. Because it was removed by eBay and not the seller.
  8. What is the item number for the Liz? I saw the Edward I groat.
  9. Ok. So EDWARDVS REX ANGLI on obverse and reverse CIVI TAS DVR EME - perhaps a crozier on the reverse, making it a pre-treaty penny, e.g. S.1595, but without the reverse crozier.
  10. Does the obverse not match, for example, Spink 1549. EDWR?
  11. It looks to be a 10cf - not a 10ab as they have a plain initial cross whereas this has the cross moline. It certainly looks genuine and, as Stuart says, these are rarely copied well.
  12. With import duty I can understand that a few tears have been shed.
  13. I'd agree! It looks like a 5b1, Winchester mint.
  14. No chronology has been determined for the dies of Edward IV/V except the gold, so it is impossible without the mintmark. However, the probability of it being Edward V is minute due to the short issue and the fact that it would have been struck from Edward IV's dies anyway.
  15. It's an easy mistake to make but at least you picked up on different classes separating the monarchs.
  16. Stephen, this is a voided longcross penny rather than a shortcross and so is definitely Henry III. Go forward a couple of pages in Spink.
  17. I really do fancy having a little play at that myself sometime! I'm going to try and catch Dave Moneyer over the summer if I can, would be an interesting meeting? Oh it would be! I've stayed at his place a couple of times and messed around with the blanks, dies and hammers. Never a dull moment with Dave! Hopefully that piece of junk will be off eBay by the close of tomorrow.
  18. It's not like any copy I've seen - WRL, Grunal or otherwise. My bet would be someone messing around with dies.
  19. Hmm. Could you provide a screenshot? I'd make sure that the Java on your desktop is also updated - http://java.com/en/ and not just the extension for Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2429779?hl=en
  20. Sounds like you should pay import duty on your in-laws, Stuart! It takes a day to get to your in-law's place?
  21. Welcome!
  22. As far as I'm aware there is no import duty on books. Were they sent as commercial sample or goods, rather than gifts?
  23. Precisely. Like this beaten-up example of a common issue. It just happens to be of Lympne mint.
  24. I was going to call you fussy until i saw Clives reply I thought William I coins were generally rare anyway, or am i mistaken? They appear rare because there is so much demand from those outside of the hammered spectrum, too. Famous monarchs will have that draw. In reality issues such as the Paxs, Bonnet and Two Stars and all that rare - it's the mints that seem to push the prices of these up.
