  1. There was also a .500 proof wasn't there. I seem to remember I bought one off spink described as such, but it got lost in the post! Yes, ESC lists a .500 proof and it has a normal incuse edge...That exists as far as I'm aware. Where are you based E Dawson, if you're weren't aware, I also produce a British coin publication.
  2. I've seen 1934 crowns worn down to less than Fine, and 1927 proofs completely unrecognisable as proofs.
  3. Those are great Oli, thanks. That reminds me that I wanted to contact the BM to see if they wouldn't mind if I reproduced the 2nd Edition Peck dust cover.
  4. Very true... And are there some pictures somewhere that would not involve me linking to Mr Chard?
  5. You can't just buy the folders! Unless on the rare occassion that a coin got damaged inside and someone put the folder on ebay, but the chance of that is very slim. In a life time your probably would collect about 3 folders that way! You could try going to the mint direct, but I suspect the older packs get pulped when their issue has sold out.
  6. Going by the Colin Cooke example here: http://www.colincooke.com/coinpages/halffarthing.htm (you've probably seen it, and it's not a closeup) I'd say send it back, yours looks very different.
  7. Ok, go for it! Send it insured and I'll return it likewise.
  8. I'd probably pay for scans of the images, if you could do some without damaging the book.
  9. Yes, of course! We're all reasonable people. And none of the regulars here are imbeciles, so fire away, let's hear about unfair negative feedback experiences (not those where negligence of any kind was involved).
  10. Is the book well illustated at all? Sorry to go off subject a bit. I don't have this book but I'm always looking for antique coin books because the images no longer have a copyright.
  11. Thanks both of you. I know one shouldn't loose sleep over suchlike, but when you try purposefully to keep squeeky clean and then imbeciles like Sharron come along, it can ruin your hour.
  12. I got a neg (user id chrisperkins)! Bloody stupid woman. I received a letter with a cheque for the England's Striking History ebook. In it, she specified a postal address for it to be sent to, so I emailed and explained it was an ebook and that other people sometimes make the same error (because most people are as thick as too short planks, but I didn't write that of course) not to worry though, I specified the download link and that was that. Without a reply or any communication I get a neg for it not being as described! Really it should have been me leaving her a neg for not reading it as described and being of sub-intelligence. Get this though.....I got her (mobile) phone number from ebay and gave her a ring. I asked politely if she was 'Sharron' (with 2 R's) and I told her who I was and that I was dissapointed with the neg and if she could tell me exactly why it was not as described. She told me to wait a moment and I could hear her talking to someone. Then the phone went dead and when I try to call again, it's switched off! How infuriating. This is a new product, I've only sold about 5, and it doesn't look good if someone already thinks it warrants a neg. What a bloody stupid uncommunicative cow. I've emailed her asking - still politely of course - if she would be able to remove the neg. She hasn't even paid anything as I still have the cheque here! If that fails, she's only in Ipswich and I can pay her a visit much easier than she could pay me a visit! The words 'window' and 'brick' come to mind, but I'm far too sensible for any nastiness like that. Bloody stupid woman.
  13. 22 already! You were 19 when you came here weren't you? Everyone has birthdays around this time, that can't be a 'coin'cedence.
  14. I took some castle picture, pictures of a Jester, a Knight and Dave hammering coins in medival surroundings....One or all of that will be on the cover.
  15. None whatsoever, they are completely different denominations and (without looking) the Half Sov is probably pretty common. It's a bit like a Cinquecento and an Alfa Romeo GTV, both made in the same year by the same people but neither has any affect on the value of the other. (I like to refer to cars somehow, one of my other interests)
  16. Yes, I can probably remember. I'm putting the cover together, but might delay printed publication a bit while Mrs West gets some advertisers for me.
  17. About the same, probably a little less.
  18. Good question. It's not in Peck as your probably know. I think this is something that I copied over from the previous editions, so I'm not sure what the old authors source was. Has anyone got a pre 2005 CCGB handy?
  19. The first commercial purchaser of ESH said this: Hello, Chris - First, may I congratulate you and thank you for compiling a very useful book, particularly for people like myself who don't live in England and are relative novices in this field as well. After a quick read through, I believe that I will find it more useful than any other single reference on this subject I have. That made me feel good. Can't wait to get it into print.
  20. Is that you with your sovereign collection?
  21. I don't know if Canada has a gold source, but I'm sure SA, P and S used their own gold.
  22. There isn't actually an index. It basically does it all (as far as I can see) in the style of the sample, from 959 - 1663. I suppose I could make an index though, that's a good idea.
  23. Right, "England's Striking History" is basically done, apart from the cover design for the printed version. So, without delay, what I'm going to do is offer it as an e-Book on ebay/rotographic.com etc in order to get some money towards the printing costs. The 9mb eBook is here: http://www.rotographic.com/ebooks/ESH.exe From the link above all you'll see is a sample 18 pages with a buy now link in the top right (it's £4.50 via paypal). Now, it's been proofread, but I think there are still little errors in it, so if you buy it and spot 10 errors that I didn't previously know about, I'll refund you fully!
  24. Russ did them the last few years for Spink. The ghostly figure on the medal book is teenage uncle Billy a few months before he met his fate on HMS Hood. It was my idea to have him on the front, but not full on in your face (the book is afterall about medals, not my family history!). The medals at the top are those that he was posthumously awarded. (for those of you that didn't know, the author of the book is my dad) And as for the other new edition on Roman Base metal coins, the photography is by me! The mosaic that makes up the background was from a ruined Roman villa I visited in Wilts (after a little digital repair). On the back is a picture of a statue of Vespasianus that I took at the Roman baths in Bath. The colour purple is also deliberate too, due to the Emperors being 'in the purple'. I put a lot of thought into the whole books you know!
  25. They should be, it's Russ Whittle, the same chap that does the Spink covers. It was them that put me on to him. I still like the branding of the covers with the orange/blue bit at the bottom, and the CCGB book will probably stay tht way. The rest will get new covers as they are renewed.
