  1. You have to register, and I have to approve you.
  2. Thanks, I've made sure that doesn't appear in the next one!
  3. There's always a link to the current gold value here: http://www.predecimal.com/shop/british_gold_coins.php
  4. I think some people use private feedback because they don't want people to know what they're buying. You might not want people to know about certain personal items! So I can see the logic behind it. Obviously its open to abuse.
  5. There were banknotes then for high amount like £5 (which was a lot then). And the previous reign George II halfcrowns would have still been in circulation. They would have still had the face value of 2 shillings and 6 pence.
  6. It has you know! Recently it's about £11,000 per kilo, which means £11 per gramme. A sov contains 7.32grammes, so that's about £80.00 bullion value. Gold is the highest it's been since 1980.
  7. If they had got feedback before this I bet it was someone bad that had taken over a good account.
  8. I put my bank details on each and every listing for all to see. So far it's been perfectly safe, especially if the banks are so nervous about giving money out. Here in Germany, most people under 30 have never written a cheque. People don't even have cheque books. Their version of BACS is the norm, and for that reason paypal doesn't do as well here. I think it's mad that people in the same country should pay paypal (a US company) a fee to send money to each other!
  9. I'm not sure Hussulo, I would suspect that what the BM say is probably true. It's not possible that it could be an error. I'd say it's some kind of experiment. There is an ex Royal mint employee that does coin evaluations. He hates me, but if you google on 'Robert Matthews coins' or something and contact him, make sure you tell him that I of predecimal.com recommended him!
  10. Dodgy! For expenisve things I don't trust paypal. Has to be a bank transfer (which should really become more widely encouraged). You had a lucky escape.
  11. I have no idea, probably not. They're just not great at replying to people. When you send a coin they keep it for a year before sending it back. I had to wait about that long for my specially struck BNS medal. So, a simple letter, or an email without anything laying around to remind them, I don't fancy your chances! I suppose we should be grateful that they give their expertise for free at all.
  12. Yes, she did didn't she.
  13. You won't hear back from them for some time, if at all!
  14. I think the point is that it's toothed both sides and the the seller is talking out of their arse (as we seem to have a bottom theme running)
  15. You ought to try logging in from time to time....Or haven't I approved you yet. I have to be careful with those whole legions of Russian spammers out there.
  16. Austria/German dealers are a load of rubbish! Any British stuff they have is usually clean down to bare metal. I hope only your bride scrubbed up well!
  17. That's alright then. Why don't you register as a member here? There's no funny business or spam and such like.
  18. You should be able to get your money back from paypal should the seller not refund you. Paypal are extremely effiecient at whipping sellers money right from under their noses, believe me! You'll have to let us know in here, how it goes.
  19. Yes, but if we keep getting little kisses we'll talk to you all day!
  20. From experience seeing other circulated proofs including 1927's etc. I've also never heard of a non proof raised edge, and I do know George V crowns pretty well.
  21. Oh, you bought it? I hope you get your money back ok.
  22. I keep meaning to do something about that.
  23. It's Spannish, without looking in books that's about all I can tell you! It's no doubt from somewhere around the 18th century.
  24. Happy birthday JMD. You're exactly a day younger that my Australian friends daughter! (if you want her email address let me know )
  25. I noticed a little error in the GB coin section of Krause books (not sure what volume/edition). The error concerns the size of the Britannia type groats. In the book they are shown as being the same size as the maundy type groats, which is of course wrong, they are the same size as the threepence (but with a milled edge). Tell Messrs Krause and Michler about that one if you will, it's bugged me for the last couple of years!
