  2. Time to show some recent acquisitions, I have had a couple of bargains in the last couple of weeks. Firstly a nice 1898 'last 8 bisects' from the last Midland coin fair, unrecognised and £35.

  3. And I had looked at this specimen at £50 in a dealers tray at the Midland Coin Fair many times over the last year or two, but left it thinking it was an F763 (I have several); but when it dropped to £17.50 I thought it worth a punt. On closer examination I think it is an F8B, on the basis of the relationship between last colon and cape, and the position of the 'dimple' left by the worn rose. What do you think? Jerry

  4. one of the newly discovered 1889 'missing serifs', £6 on Ebay. I have looked at many 1889's, seems scarce. Now I just need an upgrade.... Jerry

  5. Spot on - that tiny remnant of the Order of the Garter at the bottom right of the bust confirms it.

  6. This was Michael's first book (published in 1986) and is useful as it covers Edward VII to Elizabeth II. The Victoria edition came later (2009 as Pete says).

  7. The book (Binder) is called "The british Bronze penny 1860-1901" and was printed in 2009 but sold out now.Although if you do find find one some have extra pages which were added in 2020.They are hard to find and unless your lucky not cheap ,even more so with the update (extra pages) but worth looking for especially for varieties and date widths which a lot are not recorded in any other book.Date widths for the early years are not included though as it says in the book to numerous to list them all.

  8. Not sure this is quite the right place, although tickets are involved! I just wondered if any of the members remember William Whelan? Dealer based in central London, I suspect 1980s - 2010ish (his premises have been an Italian restaurant since 2014). Nice envelope. And two tickets, though I have no idea whether either is in Mr Whelan's hand or were from when he picked up the items they describe. Anyone able to help please? Thanks!
