I love the sitcom The Thin Blue Line and found the following dialogue hilarious. Inspector Fowler: Do you know that 12-year-olds in Holland and Belgium can already speak fluent English? Constable Goody: They're no cleverer than British children, sir. My niece is only 10, and she can speak fluent English. Inspector Fowler: [berating Goody] Your head is just something you keep your hat on, isn't it?

I'm learning to speak French but am having difficulty with the numbers. Try as I might I just can't get past seven. Turns out, I have a huit allergy.

My nephew who is not quite five wants to learn Spanish but he can't even say please yet. Bit pour for four I thought.

I'm fat but I self identify as slim. I'm translender.

Michael Gouby put me in touch with a chap called Frank Hulett who's just had published a new A5-sized booklet devoted to the decimal penny 1971-2020. It's an excellent piece of work with superb illustrations and descriptions of the different varieties that he's come across. He's also discovered that the Brilliant Uncirculated specimens issued by the Royal Mint sometimes have characteristics different from the specimens issued for circulation. Frank is happy to supply interested collectors with a copy of his splendid book for the cost of postage.
