  1. Well done, Jon. I know it was a superb specimen, which he got from LCA. Not through auction, but from their choice English coins for direct sale. Can't recall the exact price he paid, but it was quite expensive.

  2. Some references list two varieties of the "A" to the left of the lighthouse. The F289A (smaller A) and the F290A (Larger A). Freeman only lists the 290A and also lists it as unbarred. My example is the larger "A" closer to the rim, and is unbarred (F290A). I think Gary's example is a smaller "A" and is closer to the LH. I do not know if Gary's example is barred or not. Here is my example.

  6. But what is its value? Can't be 0 as its very existence precludes the square root of nothing.

  7. I'm fairly sure that the A's are unbarred. My A specimens are not high enough grade to show, but if I remember correctly, those better condition examples that I have seen were all unbarred.

  10. They should do the honorable (but less profitable) thing of declaring such objects as medals rather than coins.

  11. My win on the DNW auction today. Not a rare or exceptional penny but it fills a monarch gap and I'm pleased with the condition!

  12. Also pleased with this 1904 penny I got from David Craddock. It's not the easiest date to get in tip top condition. Uncirculated with 95% lustre - ever so lightly toning. Unfortunately, evidence of a fingerprint on the reverse, and there is a small carbon spot on the obverse. Think I've finally resolved the colour disparity.
