Hi Paddy, Thanks for the reply, the farthings etc i know about , it's more the regional coins I don't have a clue about especially the D&H. The only reason I mentioned the D&H as the previous owner wrote out a list and wrote on the holders. I'll post a few pics.

There is a lot to unpick there! First to cover off the non-tokens - the halfpennies and farthings - these are all covered adequately in the usual "Coins of England and the United Kingdom" reference book. Nothing listed in your selection looks massively scarce and value will depend largely on condition. The Gaming tokens generally have very little value. They were made mostly during Victoria's reign as nostalgic mementoes. The regional tokens are the interesting pieces. D&H refers to the Dalton and Hamer "Provincial Token Coinage of the 18th Century" series of books and reference numbers printed in the early 20th century. These numbers were repeated in "The Token Book" printed by Galata in 2010, which is probably the easiest reference to get hold of now. I have not the time to go through and check the rarity of all the tokens listed, and value will vary enormously depending on condition. Looks like the good basis for starting a collection, and you probably need to acquire or borrow the reference book to progress.

I picked up a 2025 definitive set here in the US for $70/ £52 - I knew it was high but couldn't find anything else with the new designs.

Hi Folks I came across these tokens/halfpennies in a box of coins I picked up at a sale. I know absolutely nothing about tokens/regional halfpennies. Any information would be great.

I'm still waiting! As for mint sets, I only buy the basic definive set, the ones without the commemoratives. I have been boycotting commemorative coins since 2005.

Similar for me. And if you live within an hour or two of Galata's address, have a day out walking in the area and pick them up. You will probably be offered a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Paul and Bente are nice people.

Perfectly normal. As Secret Santa said in your other posting, for the years 1861 to 1866 especially, there are all sorts of date widths. This 1864 is a scarcer date and has the crosslet 4 which is a bit scarcer again than the serif 4, but the lowly condition of this piece means it has very little collectors value - perhaps 2 or 3 pounds absolute max. Don't spend it all at once!

I think you are there or thereabouts. There is definitely an inner circle both sides, and a CIVITAS LONDON reverse. The obverse Iegend is probably EDWARDVS REX but there is too little face/crown detail to be much more specific - certainly North class 10 or later, and likely Edward II. The North classification has been substantially re-written and subdivided in the Withers (Galata) publications which are highly recommended. Jerry

The 2023 50p 20p 10p and 1p are all considerably under 1m minted, so expect to see them on eBay at absolutely crazy prices.

Here's what I did in Photoshop:

1. Crop the picture so that only the penny is showing. 2. Enlarge it enough for us to see the detail (use a graphics editor or the free one that comes with Windows) 3. Save the jpeg so it's a file size 500k or less.

I have a Royal Mint issue mint collection with 1, 2,5,10,50 cent plus 1dollar . These are in a Royal Mint illustrated folder . Any interest in acquiring these . Dave Allan UK

Hi, I am working my way through some unidentified coins and am a bit unsure with this one. From my assessment it is an Edward II Farthing (S. 1474) based upon the crown and collar. On my websites, I define a "variety" as a unique combination of date, obverse and reverse design, and include any inadvertent man-made changes such as repairs or variations in date width as "sub-varieties". Michael Gouby has made an attempt to record all the various date widths in his book "The Victorian Bronze Penny". He does not record any variations in 1864 date width but these date variations are so commonplace in bronze pennies that it would be virtually impossible to document them all.
