A florin in 1912 is worth GBP 15.00 in buying power in 2026 . A silver florin contains one third once of silver worth about GBP 16.00 in 2026. Food for thought I think. The argument in 1919 was silver had increased in price so debase the currency. the truth was the pound had lost value due to the pressures of WW1 and with the withdrawal gold in 1914 by issuing paper promises despite a short lived return in 1925 until 1931

I can’t comment on the actual coin, but maybe this could be moved to a more appropriate place than the publications forum? -

This authentic Ancient Greek coin from Macedon, Neapolis, dates back to approximately 375–350 BC, representing a significant period in classical Greek history. Struck in bronze (Æ), this drachm reflects the rich cultural and economic legacy of the ancient Macedonian region during the pre-Hellenistic era. 1844 Victoria Shield Half Sovereign – Repunched Date (RPD) Check

"Haha, yes, it’s Polish! Sorry for any translation quirks. Back to the coin – what do you think about the doubling on the date? I'm really curious about your thoughts on this variety." -
translation, Russian to English, 👍 Hi everyone, I've recently acquired a Victoria Young Head Shield Back Half Sovereign from 1844 and protected it from macro photography access. While examining the reverse, I noticed what seems to be a very distinct Repunched Date (RPD). The doubling/repunching is particularly visible on the last two digits ("44"). On the last digit, there is a very clear structure inside the triangle of the number 4, as well as an extended alignment of the stems to the right and down. I've attached two high-resolution macro photos (files from standard 1000017922.jpg to 1000017923.jpg) showing the details. I would really appreciate any input, expert opinions, or catalog references regarding this type of feature. Is this a known variety of the 1844 Shield Half Sovereign, and how rare is it? Thanks in advance for your help!

I just won 18 Postumus (A.D. 260- 269) coins from the Oliver's Orchard Hoard of 1983. The hoard was found while plowing a field and consisted of 1,559 coins, almost entirely of Postumus antoniniani except for 14 denarii of Septimius Severus.

Cześć wszystkim, chronione przed dostępem do zdjęć makro monety Victoria Young Head Shield Back Half Sovereign z 1844 r., niedawno nabyłem.

its the same with me and the lack of fascination of the 1 Penny's, the Die No's seem to have grown as I work through what I've had for a long time waiting to be sorted out,...odd how these now become a bit of an obsession.... enjoyable all the same 👍I believe its possible they will become more of an interest...not necessarily in my life time....I just hope someone in years to come appreciate these being now in a Date / Die No order.... 🤔

I've no interest in die numbers on silver Vics, but die "1" must surely be collectable?

I think the three fingers with nails belong to the other hand 😆
-
The hand on the left appears to have six fingers. And presumably a hidden thumb.

Heh. I have an 1887 shilling that was turned into a pendant. I enjoy wearing it I don't know why whoever had that soldered on the top but It's fun to wear as far as I am concerned

Another possibility, given the stylised hands, which are very eastern/indian looking, is that it represents ‘fate,’ ‘meant to be,’ etc.? A word taken from Arabic/Turkish/Indian roots meaning ‘lot’ or unshakeable destiny. Here’s a clip I found on Google: ‘Historically (particularly in the Victorian era), people would smooth down one side of a circulating coin and hand-engrave it with names, initials, or symbolic words like Kismet. These were gifted to romantic partners as a physical representation of unshakeable destiny.’’ edit: and from Dictionary.com Kismet means fate or destiny. In Islam, kismet refers to the will of Allah. But it is popularly used to refer to something that one believes was “meant to be”— ...

Adding additional engraved coins found.... interesting I understand the meaning of KISMET..... but could it be it was owned by a member of the KISMET Foundation? 🤔

Heh. I think if I were in the market for an ... inexpensive ... 1696 William III crown, I'd spend about £40 more... https://www.ebay.com/itm/267680267467?_skw=william+III+crown&itmmeta=01KTXMYXP9ZX8YEWMM0R42PBG9&hash=item3e52fcbccb:g:-BgAAeSw-7BqFFkB&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA0GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xAC2siVMxwuEmIkSb09NzHjbAJylzcku4DTGlSMlkrvowGK8wAOFrKxMBOleKQopG6Ahv7Uly1Rp72Syf%2BIdobKYcmhmWvHcdzP8f2lOUkxaa9pUcirOphDQYAt361LlEBzgeuRhmrZZQd%2BFzxLXRG7Pk%2BU0p7LwPV%2BJmklVMb1r4POn1XnuEM0LHTOHi0vRcx3OgewKJuCxy%2BwZ98j6zY4dYScrcjJjRv47Cd8YoYR5wB8Sfb0jfUBtQ%2B7wOKcD8A%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR6jb-7TXZw

I'm afraid I will have to agree with the vendor here. It is problem free - because the coin is too flat to see them.

Good, problem-free, example…😳 https://ebay.io/m/lSqVOm
